I have such a huge legacy boner for Vortec heads.

E-Tec (e-tech?)
Yes, I think you're right. I couldn't think of the name of them....senior moment.
A friend of mine had a set on a 406 smallblock. They performed well.

Vortec heads + RPM Air Gap intake + XE262 cam = 400 hp.

I used to have a website bookmarked with a collection of vortec headed sbc builds from various publications. The biggest power ones all used that intake and that cam.

My motors about done. XR274 cam, that intake, vortecs with big back cut Manley valves, on a .040 400, hoping for 450+

I have SBC 355, vortec heads, Edelbock air gap manifold with a ZZ4/604 camshaft GMP 10185071. Never had it on the dyno machine it's build is inbetween the 602 crate and the 604 crate so I know it's around 400 hp....enough for me to have fun with

How obvious is it to find or locate cracks on a set of used Vortec heads....or do they have to be magnafluxed? ....or do you focus in on a particular part of the head?
From what I'm understanding, you're taking arisk buying used Vortecs unless of course they've been thoroughly gone over.
