easiest way to posi

For the Astro/Safari vans, does anyone know where the RPO codes are located for verifying? Also, are there any otherrequirements when changing from a peg leg to a posi? I'm researching this for myself, just don't want to miss anything.

Depending on the gear lube and which carrier you have you may need to add a small bottle of positive traction additive. Do your homework to find the right donor vehicle. If you don't measure the backlash and shim the new carrier correctly you will destroy it. IIRC, Youtube has some vidoes that walk you through the installation.

In all reallity, the "easiest" way to get a posi when you don't have one, is get the welder out  . However this is the worst way to do it, a ticking time bomb so to speak, you might make it 10 feet, or 1000+ miles, your gamble  .

Read this and check out the video. http://gbodyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42196#.UP_uu_LY2CkYou must not have searched very well, but since you have already admitted to being lazy we can't fault you for that. Oh, and to answer your question, the easiest way to a posi is to swap the whole entire rear end. MUCH simpler.

have you checked yet cause if you do have a posi and the gearing you want then you have the answer

G80 or G81, except that there's a strong chance of only finding a Gov-lock in there, if it's a Astro/Safari.

Oh hell. Chock the front wheels, jack up the back and put it on axle stands. Put it in Neutral with the engine & parking brake both off. Rotate one drive wheel. If the other wheel drive wheel turns in the same direct you have 'posi', if not, you don't.

Not always true, a factory LSD will have more resistance but will still allow the wheels to rotate separately and or oposite directions. Basically it acts as an open diff when torque is not present.

Even if the clutches are completely worn out the springs still place pressure against the clutch packs or cone and both back wheels will spin in the same direction if no resistance is placed on them.
