easiest way to posi

On a locking diff, yes, on a regular clutch LSD not the case. GM used both types designated with the G80 option, so I just wanted to throw that out there

a limited slip/posi has constant pressure against both side gears. The torque sensing rear ends were not available in our dinasours

Not trying to argue gp, but are you going to make me jack my jeep up (has a clutch LSD, similar to the corporate gm lsd) and make a video spinning the wheels? It's cold out and I already have been fighting illness, but I will if I hafta  . I would use a gm for example, but I gave that one to a buddy of mine (8.5 G80 rear), and he has since blown it up, haha. 🙁 That one acted just like my jeep's diff, I doubted it being lsd (because of the one wheel being able to spin alone), but it was indeed in there when he cracked it open, I got him the clutch packs to rebuild it at one point.

I think the last year for the locking diff was 85ish, they went corporate lsd after that.

No you don't have to do that, just admit you're wrong...

I think it's the Gov Lock you're talking about but that was not available in our cars. I have never seen one or heard of one in our cars..I'm trying to find which cars the G80 came in and I found nothing yet. It looks like htye only used it in trucks so I guess you will have to go outside to make that video. I'll have a coffee while I wait... 😀

 Never give up! hahaha, though I honestly have no way to prove myself over the interwebs without video proof. Not thinking of the gov lock though, they didn't hit trucks until 87 or 88, cars remained with a regular clutch lsd right up through the last B-Body. However, if one were to take a way the locking mechanism of the gov lock, they work just like a traditional clutch lsd.

You'll have to have more than one coffee, I drove the eagle to work today, jeep is at home.

G80 is just GM's RPO code for posi traction/limited slip, used in cars, trucks, vans, etc, it doesn't signify what unit it has, only that the vehicle is equipped with some type of limited slip or locking differential.

I'm trying to figure out which one your talking about cause I only know of the two types that have the constant pressure. That Eagle must work great in the snow...

The GM one I experienced this with had the S pre-load spring, not the eaton type.

Yes, the eagle kicks *ss in the snow, makes my jeep look daff  , well, to a degree. The jeep will go through deeper snow, but normal snowy/slick street driving, Eagle wins, I've never had a more sure footed vehicle, even in 2wd. It would really kick *ss with snow tires instead of the touring all seasons  .

The Eaton came with the S spring and the 4 spring with retainer. I always thought the S sping was the old style but the Eaton in my 67 rear has the 4 spring set up....and the Auburn came with the 4 spring and retainer

Hmmm, I've always refered to the S type as a corporate, but regardless, I can't say you're wrong, but I can't say I'm wrong either, we could go back and forth all day, :itchy: ( I've always wanted to use that, but never had a reason, haha). I'm stepping down.
:hijack: over,

sorry O/P
