Engine Miss.. rounded lobes?

I'm wondering how the engine ran on 4 cylinders
Me too. If I can get it to again tomorrow I'll post a video. Even with all the vacuum leaks in the world, no V engine should run with an entire bank disconnected... right? Well, no old school, carbed, dizzy V8.

The is something to be said for adjustable push rods in a Buick. My 350 has a 'no overlap' cam from the now defunct Buick performance and restoration place called Poston they actually made and sold the first aluminum 350 Buick intake.

I have adjustable pushrods in mine, they look a lot like those in an older Harley engine.

I may have cleared it up, I think it was a distributor problem, I'll let you guys know soon.

I think I got it. The timing was very retarded. I adjusted it on wednesday, but it was too dark and too late at night to run it for more than a few seconds so I left it until today. I went to start it about an hour ago to go to the bank, and for the first time since the summer, I didn't have to feather the gas! It just started in three cranks and sat at 1400rpm on fast idle! I still got some idle rpm tweaking to do, and some other tidbits, but it runs great! I attribute the retarded timing to the "miss" that the engine had. It seems happier now. But it still has a rowdy cam in it and V6 motor mounts and a worn out trans mount, so it does shake a little, but not nearly as much as it did. Gotta readjust the carb too, since all the adjustments I made were with faulty timing. Man, it's awesome when you just have that moment of clarity and it just comes to you out of the blue as to what the problem is. And before you all ask, no, I do not have a timing light. Or vacuum gauge. I wish I did though. I might be unloading my old 231 here soon, so I'll try to pick those up soon enough.

if the timing is retarted it should have had some run on when you turn the engine off

I had the timing retarded too much on my truck last year and it caused a miss but mainly when under load. It started and shut off just fine though.

the reason retarded time usually causes run on is that the engine and the exhaust valve run hotter. You can actually burn the exhaust valves with retarded timing. With the extra heat the engine diesels when it is shut down

Engine never dieseled. Must've been on the retard limit, so to speak. The limit right before it would start to diesel. Car was hard to start when cold, but when hot it would pop right off. Now it starts in three cranks and stays running without even touching the gas. I wouldn't doubt there's still some more fiddling to do, but for now it's way better than it was.
