Engine Miss.. rounded lobes?

Question: Do any of you know how the carbon brush is supposed to be installed in the grommet? Does it need to be inserted from the top and it sits on top of the grommet, or be installed from underneath? That is the only thing I dicked with recently on my engine besides the carb which aside from the choke doesn't seem to be the problem. Also, if it goes through the bottom, how the hell do you fit it through that hole without messing up the spring? Just stretch and hope for the best? (giggity).

Try your basic set-up first. There is plenty of info around, maybe even your public library will have this one available to you... after you reach the limitations of your carb's ability to provide hat your cam needs.

The carb I have was Built by Everyday Performance for this exact combo. I think I just need to re-dial it in after taking it apart so many times. And I have that book. Good read.

How could a valve be improperly set? There is no way to set them. I had the heads gone through; mildly surfaced to even up any irregularities, three angle valve job, two valves replaced, and all the valve guides checked for wear and replaced where necessary. I installed a different stem seal than the old fashioned umbrella type that that particular shop used, and I did the thing where you take a rubber mallet and bop the tip of the valve to seat the keepers and what not. All valves moved freely. 1st picture is of factory replacement rocker arms and shaft, along with the plastic nylon buttons. I inspected my old shafts and rockers for any wear, or cracks. Everything checked out fine. Second picture is of a 350 Buick HorsepowerTV built a while back with the rockers on the engine. There is no way to adjust them.

EDIT: The mild surfacing was more of a grazing, just to clean up the surface. I did not need to purchase new, shorter pushrods to compensate. Intake bolted on normally.

With Buick engines the valve lash is preset by the factory for stock spec cams. When you put an aftermarket cam in, you need to take measurements then have new pushrods made to the new correct length or install adjustable pushrods. Basically the engine isn't designed to be tinkered with as much as a Chevy.

I unplugged all 4 wires on the driver's side to try and narrow down a non firing or misfiring cylinder, and the damn thing still ran like nothing happened! Is that normal? I just let it sit there and idle, bewildered. Are V8s supposed to do be able to do that?
