Engine/spring overhaul on my 86 Cutlass

Use some big bolt cutters. That's what I used on the LCA. Bolt did not want to come out. They're are replacement bolts at your local hardware store. Think they are 12mm grade 10.9 or something like that.

Yeah if it doesnt break free tonight then im just going to cut the bolts and get some new ones. Want to get my new bushings installed and that cant happen till this is out of the way

try a cold chisel and drive a wedge in the shins....

So as of two days ago the upper arm broke free, heated it for a long time and instead of a pipe i used a piece of cold angle iron. Seemed not to bounce as much as the pipe did and within a few hits it broke free. Had to wiggle back and forth about the width of a shim from one side or the other to actually get it to come off. Evertime it would move it would hit the colder piece of bolt and stick again. But its off now and hopefully a simple job with a die will clean up the threads and ill be all set

Started welding up the front frame brace last night, there will be a plate on both sides on the bottom and the trianulating bar should be nice and strong when I'm done... I hope. Yes my welding sucks

Come to think of it, I also had to use a sawz-all to cut off the control arm bolts. I remember it wasn't fun...and I went thru several carbide blades in the process. I can't recall how I got the remainder of the bolts out..it was quite a few years ago.
I do recall that the bolts must have been hardened...what a b*tch.

So I've made some progress on the car, got the heads on and test fitted that pretty intake looks like it will have power let's see if it really does. That's my boy putting the head bolts in, he did everyone by himself

what jeg model heads are those? nice build btw

Jack- im really glad i finally got them out without having to cut them, i dont understand how they got suck that bad with as little rust as the car had on it.

Gbody- thanks and im not sure of the exact model number right off hand but they are the 64cc combustion chamber, 180cc intake heads.

Got a few small things cleaned and looking better while I'm waiting on my control arms to come back from having the bushings pressed in. Cleaned and hammered out the old backing plates and have one looking good, also cleaned the front spidles and steering box. Will post them up once they are finished. Purple powe cleaner and a scrub brush saved a whole lot of time, the steering box was horrible but that stuff had it looking new in no time at all
