is this a street car or a drag car? street car-just replace the jets it's alot cheaper and you don't need absolute max top end power. if it's a drag car, the 750 will give you some more top end power, but not a major increase in numbers. is it worth another $300+?

It's a street car right now, but I put high performance parts in it because I want that power available when I feel like burning up the road...

I know replacing the jets would be a lot cheaper, but I didn't want to be too cheap to protect my investment by not purchasing compatible parts...

Being too cheap to buy the right carb while burning up your pistons just doesn't make sense...

The next question I'll need to ask the folks at the speed shop is how much larger do I need to jet the carb to at least have it running at a decent enough ratio to protect my internals...

You don't need mechanical secondaries for the street, 670cfm is fine for a 350. The cam is also good with the compression you have. I read a build a while back with a 350, bone stock Vortec heads, Comp XE268H cam (224/230º @ .050", .477"/.480" lift), Edelbrock Perf. RPM intake, and a 750 Holley... it made about 375hp and 415ft. lbs. of torque. Yours should probably make upwards of around 400hp easy with the specs you have. They took out the Comp cam and put in a GM Hot Cam on that 350 (still 9:1 compression btw, so you can run it on 87 octane), and it made around 400hp, don't remember torque numbers, but they went up as well. 18:1 is insane for an a/f like the other guys said. If they ran it at that ratio, I would go to a different shop. Any place that would run it like that I wouldn't trust to make an informed decision. You are getting a little close to the limit with your cam, but the only thing you'll gain with a 750 is some top end power, it shouldn't affect driveability.

I never thought about them being 305 vortec heads, although I did ask what vehicle they came off of...

you're heads are not from a 305.....you posted you have 062's which is a 350 head.......some have used a 305 head on a 350 since with the smaller chamber you get higher compression......in theory it sounds good but from what I have heard it's a waste of time....

dyno

now we all know that the real reason we build this stuff,is street creds and that cool factor 😀

i personally have built and ran in my ss a 0.60 350 and stock vortec heads
a comp cams xe262,a barry grant 750 mechancial secondaries, a super victor intake. an after tuning, i got it to 12.90...on 92, and 12.22 with a 100 shot

in my opinon everybody buys the bottom of the page cams, cause they have got to have the biggest cam they can find...i think thats a guy thing...

most people that don't have much experience around performace cars, don't put a system that gives them what they want together...you need to research before you order parts

here's me having fun in my car that can't possibly work cause i didn't use the right parts

this is a street car! lets see all of yours in action 😀 ...jesse

12.90s... is that a full weight car?

I'm just trying to get a guesstimate of what mine may be capable of, although I'm running a 4-speed with 2.29s (gearing/spacing is almost equal to a 2004R with 3.42s).

my car weighs 3680 with my *ss in it....jesse

They're definitely 062s. I did searches on the casting number after the machine shop messed up my double humps. I just didn't know if they put 062s on both trucks and cars...

I'm not sure if you're referring to me or not, and I didn't take offense, but that's not what happened in my situation...

I took on this project as learning experience. Professionally, I'm an IT Specialist. In that field, it is just as important to plan ahead for compatibility as it is to the field of engine building. I've certainly learned a lot and this has been a fulfilling experience...

I leaned on the advice at my disposal, came up with a plan, but had my plan thrown off when the machinist jobbed my heads. I had no idea how this was going to turn out, luckily it's not a catastrophe, but it's not ideal either...

Now my job is to learn how to overcome this hurdle. It's just another issue that I'll be able to beat with experience the next time it presents itself to me or someone else I know...

I also wanted to make sure I thanked everyone that has offered me advice or tried to help me conquer the issues I'm experiencing...

I was able to go by the speed shop and pick up a Holley carb kit...

If I remember correctly I have 72s as my primary jets and 68s as my secondary jets...

Does anyone know what size jets I would need to install to bring my A/F ration down to a more reasonable value? I'm asking because if I can find that value, I can return the kit and just buy the exact jets I need...

yeah i forgot that he had said 062 heads. the 305 idea was a sh*ts and giggles one anyway.
actually the machinest screwing up may be a good thing.. the old school double hump heads are not very good. they were good 30 yrs ago but tech has come very far. IIRC the vortec were based off of a "special" corvette head known for power. so they probably flow quite a bit better than the double humps.
