this is the first video of the 81 being fired up since install with open stock chevy manifold until i get some headers and this is with no vacum lines hooked up or tuned but still not bad better videos to follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQo1TeK1De4

That is one of my favorite things about fixing up a car is when you first fire up a new motor. Well, at least until you take off the valve covers start adjusting the rockers and they leak all over your exhaust manifolds and you smell like burnt oil for 3 days. :(

It has been a long time since I built a performance engine (built 400 SBC 4-bolt) and it was in an 81, and I too had to run it about 15 miles to the exhaust shop with open headers.

Haha, last time I did that was in my '85 SS about 15 years ago. Old guys were giving me thumbs up while most people just looked at me in a repulsive manner.
