Fishing (2020)

Had a successful and even eventful fishing trip yesterday.
Took the SS Poverty out for its maiden voyage of the season. Went to my favorite Walleye lake and had a pretty eventful day. Lots of decent fish and my PB for that body of water a 26.5 inch 'eye
Managed not to get sun burnt and avoided a tornado that touched down by about 10 minutes while driving through hail and a torrential downpour.
The big walleye had a 8 inch perch in its mouth and still felt it need to bite my spinner rig.

Nice Walleye. We haven't caught any that nice this year, hiding on us. She caught this one just about a year ago.FB_IMG_1592181754022.jpg

Caught these on the Lake of the Prairies, all Walleye. It used to be one of the top ten reservoir's in North America, couldn't keep them off your hooks. Slow today and not as good as it was years ago. My wife caught one a bit smaller then the smallest in the pic, which is mine. So 3 to 1 for the Wife. 20200622_165735.jpg

gulp and a long squid strip
I went out yesterday, Father's Day, with my Son-In-Law and Grandson. Lots of short Fluke. I was using the GULP! on a leadhead but I also used a squid strip. Without the squid there were no hits. So the GULP! alone was pretty worthless. Together it outfished the spearing/squid Fluke rigs about two to one. For what they cost I will probably stick with my usual glow-in-the-dark grubs, shrimps, and assorted other squiggly plastic things. Here is the best- last drift of the day and my s-i-l says he feels a fish. But just then the "hook set" button on the baitcaster locks up. The return spring must have broken. Now you can't reel in or anything- it is locked solid. Nothing to do but hand-over-hand manually bring in the line and I feel something big tugging. We get it at the boat and he nets it. Damned if it isn't the biggest fish of the day and a fat keeper! Amazing! IMG_5165.JPG

Well, we were going to go to Greenwater Lake. Instead we went to the much closer, bigger and deeper aptly named Fishing Lake. I found a spot about 75 feet deep. But as usual the hot spot was just across the lake from the launch in 7 to 9 feet of water. We had to of caught 30 fish, maybe 10ish Pike and the rest Walleye. A couple of Walleye were 4 poundish, biggest Pike about 6 or 7 pounds. There was a 39.9 pound Pike caught a few years back. Bonus my Wife the smart *ss Nurse. First pic the Walleye from yesterday.

Well, the last 2 days have sucked. We went to Thunder Rapids, the outflow of the EB Campbell dam off Tobin Lake. Nothing, Wife almost fowl hooked one, and no one else caught either. We went to Fishing Lake, too rough to go on. 3 little lakes close by, all with too shitty of launches. Even the Dakota would have been questionable. Went to Theodore Lake, the Whitesand River dammed up. A 10 mile long lake, tried multiple spots, nothing! How is there no fish biting, just sucked.Resized_20200625_153736.jpeg

Another great day at Fishing Lake. Probably close to the same 30 fish, more Walleye this time. Absent from the picture is the 7 pound Walleye my Wife almost landed. A great evening.20200626_190246.jpg20200626_190925.jpg20200626_184031.jpg
