What is the black disc between the yoke and pinion support? It looks to be a dust shield for the seal? Whatever it is, can I cut it off? It's really loose and jinglin', baby. Go head, baby.. .

Normally that dust shield is attached to the yoke.

As said it's a shield pressed on to a land cut on the yoke. I would get it out of there before it creates another problem.

The new yoke on Dad's Galaxie included one. Personally I would prefer it to be there....

Not loose like that, of course.
