Depends on the starter. Some permenant magnet starters can stay locked in due to the residual magnetism in the starter. I had the ford solenoid setup in my car and had a tci starter and it worked fine. Switched to a powermaster and it tested fine at home just bumping the starter. Took it to the track and started the car for the first time and when I shut the car off it stayed cranking. Had to kill the battery main to stop it.
