Frame off question?

They gave the measurements. You could look for them locally. What is your time worth? I hear you though.

I figure I'll waste more on gas driving around. Especially since I moved away from the city. I just ordered hopefully I will get it by this weekend.

When I did my frame I used a hole cutter and 14 gauge steel to make my washers to repair the frame. Then I used the center piece I cut out, opened up the center of the piece to 1/2" and welded them to the control arm brackets to add some strength for the control arm bolt area.

That's a great idea. I ended up just ordering the washer last night before I read your post. Will keep this in mind for future repairs though. I saw a Malibu Wagon at a farm near my house that has been sitting next to the shed since I moved here 5 months ago looks complete and in great shape from about 20 yards away. I was planning to stop by last weekend to ask about it but it rained both days. I am going to stop by this Saturday to see if they are willing to sell it. Might have to steal your idea on that one if I get lucky.

Is 14 gauge steel what everyone uses to box in the lower control arms as well? If not what would you recommend? I have an extra set I plan on boxing.

I used 14 gauge cause that is the same gauge as the frame. I cut the washers from a left over piece I bought for boxing the frame

I have a sheet of 14 gauge laying around the garage that I will use for the frame itself. I was wondering if that would be to thick of a gauge for the control arms? I would like to use it, I think I have enough for both the frame and LCA.

I just welded the washers for the bolts for the control arms to the control arm brackets and used a little longer 1/2" bolt for the control arms. I used on the front and rear lowers and rear uppers. I also welded some 14 gauge straps on the lower rear bracket to add some strength

Fella's, any tips on how to remove the front coil springs without killing myself? I feel like I should have done this prior to removing the body. I usually put the jack under the control arm unscrew everything and slowly drop it. However with no weight on the car I want to make sure I do it the safest way.

are you going the change the front springs or use the ones you have?. If you are not going to be using them you can cut them. I have used a saws all to cut the front springs.

I will be re-using the springs, they are pretty new. I only rode on them about 4 months before I parked the car. Maybe down the line in the future I will get lowering springs but for now this will have to do. Thanks for the tip though.
