Just found this on Kijiji in Quebec: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-transmissio...re/1318458045?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
I find the price a little steep.

You see what he switched to - $1450.00 for a 30 year old rear end that's probably been leaned on, not me! I don't have that $$ in my 9".
Good to know. This is my next purchase.QP, Curry, and moser are pretty equal, what comes into play is what the package comes with. If you look at options for the build you can see there are quite a few listed with the $$ amount. The pig itself can go from a to z depending on what you want. I have a Moser in the Regal and a QP in the Sonoma, both were ordered as housing - axle package w/o the rear end. The Regal I ordered w/ GM ends and used the brakes I had.
I'm not buying it, just saw the posting and thought that some one might be interested in the add. I paid $200 for an 8.5 with a possi and 4.10 gears for my swap 🙂You see what he switched to - $1450.00 for a 30 year old rear end that's probably been leaned on, not me! I don't have that $$ in my 9".
I think for a lot of people (some people, OK, maybe it's just me) it comes down to availability. I would like an 8.5 for simplicity's sake, and they come with the gear I want in them already, but in 15 years, I have NEVER seen an 8.5 G body rear for sale near me, none in salvages, and no GN/TR-H/O/442s being parted.
Even here in Louisville they've become scarce. I aqcuired my 8.5" about 12 or 13 years ago due to me being young and not knowing my Cutlass had a 7.5" in it. I bought a new ring and pinion and a powertrax for a 8.5", the shop informed me they had an 8.5" with 3.73's in it already and I bought it for $275!!!!!I think for a lot of people (some people, OK, maybe it's just me) it comes down to availability. I ran across an H/O that I considered buying for parts, but didn't see hacking one up as being a very good idea.
For this reason, I think the 9" is the winner for a lot of people, especially if you're going to have to spend money going through the 8.5. My only real concern with the 9 is I remember reading about axle sealing issues on the QP housings a while back
