Getting the F' Outta Dodge.

Evansville, Indiana area is not bad, population around 115,000( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evansville,_Indiana). We have all four seasons, sometimes two or three within a couple of days. Stand your ground law, constitutional carry, stable fiscal state government. Hills, fields, rivers, lakes. Two to three hours to Louisville, KY, Nashville, TN, or Indianapolis, all with good sized airports and more culture. Small regional airport in Evansville. Two universities, two hospitals with multiple facilities, one small zoo. Variety of home and property sizes. Home to the third oldest baseball ballpark in the states-(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosse_Field), and the WWII P47 Thunderbolt-(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_P-47_Thunderbolt). The Fall festival, Volksfest, Frog Follies are good times. National Corvette Museum and NCM Motorsports park is about two hours away. A few SCCA regional clubs close by. And little old me.

Downsides- not exactly a highly desired "cultural destination", maybe more so than Saskatoon- if that matters. Allergies- coal fired power plants, lots of pollen producing stuff- trees, ag crops, etc. can be hard on some people. Some shootings and such, but usually in the same neighborhoods, just don't live there. Occasional tornadoes/thunderstorms. Schools-not really sure, my kids(21 and 22 now), are weirdos, but I know there are options.

Funny, I was just recently thinking how very little I know about Indiana. Housing looks to be pretty cheap there though.

Fun fact- the factory building(adjacent to the airport) where the P47 was built later became a Whirlpool refrigerator plant, where I worked for seven years and served my Tool and Die apprenticeship, prior to heading to TMMI. There's a small museum on the airport grounds-(https://www.evansvillewartimemuseum.org/)
There were several million rounds of 45 ACP produced here as well-(https://www.defensemedianetwork.com...ld-war-ii-production-from-cars-to-cartridges/)

Cool. I developed a huge appreciation for wartime aircraft as a young man. The Allies got it right using naming conventions that inspired people. Thunderbolt.

Lightening.

Hellcat.

It is a shame we had to leave Ontario because Ottawa and Trenton both have solid aviation museums. But, I am pretty certain Winnipeg has a decent one too.

Nobody suggesting Idaho? I heard he might be able to find a nice neighbour for him to visit regularly...

I do love potatoes.

4 hours from Evansville-visited in 2015 with the Boy Scout troop

the one thing I have not seen mentioned about living in the states is the one forbidden topic we have here.......politics. in the last 25yrs it's gotten REAL divisive and partisan. so if you're serious about moving here, pick your location carefully. that's all I'm gonna say. other than taking into account the bible thumpers and bigots.

My opinion the best WWII fighter.
P38 was a nice jack of many trades. Great in the Pacific. Able to do everything from escort to bomb duty, but less impressive in Europe. IIRC more a low altitude plane that was out classed up high, and used to have control issues with a steep dive to escape those higher altitude problems.

I kind of needed out a little with some WWII stuff. So best fighter of WWII? I'd guess depends on application and theatre.

I Know it really put a hurting on the Japanese with three of the top aces of the USAAF flying them but if there was some more refining for the ETO maybe Ford would of used Lightning instead of Mustang in '64.

Yes, adjacent to Wright-Patterson.
I assume the politics thing has always been contentious (i.e. Aaron Burr/Alexander Hamilton), it's just more "in your face" with the interweb and such. Indiana, currently at least, is relatively conservative and I hope it doesn't become appealing enough to too many non-conservative types anytime soon.
