Re: going to the track sat but another what will she run gue

the heads have had alot of work done to them, they were on my 11.20 sec malibu with a 406, but spun a bearing, so i pulled the top half off and got the 355 and put everything on it but the cam, as i wanted something more street able, wifes birthday friday so not sure if i can make test and tune then, but not gonna change a thing(other then what i fixed) and rerun it and see

smaller carburetor

Vacuum secondaries, right? A 350 won't produce enough pull to open 750 secondaries all the way. The Holley is a good design, it takes what it needs. If you wire tie the secondaries open you'll be too rich.

I'm closing in on 11s in the quarter - not quite there yet. My carb is smaller than yours (670).

Re: going to the track sat but another what will she run gue

yes vac secondaries, i used the paper clip trick to see if there opening at all, (i didnt wire it open,) after my quick blast with full throttle, i pulled over and checked the clip to see if it moved, and it hadnt ( for the record i ran it to 6000rpms) it should have open some but didnt, so after seeing it didnt move i unhooked the rod for the secondaries and ran the same test again shifting at the same rpm, and both test runs were the same, both rans the exact same, so i pulled the housing off to the secondaries again, and look at the diaphragm really good, at first i didnt see and rips but upon doing more testing and crap( wont bore yous with the same results i was getting lol) i took it apart 1 last time and looked at it really hard, and the area of where the rubber meets the metal plate thing the spring sits on,there was a rip in it,changed that took it back out for 1 last test( cus at this point im getting madder then hell at this damn carb) but was rewarded with a huge difference, car acts totally different when the pedal is hammered, pulls way harder then before, ill try and get a video of me trying to launch it( i know i know not the same as the track but you will see difference) normal driving hasnt changed at all thats still the same but when matted big difference,

Thats awesome man. Your times will improve. Well maybe not if your going up in smoke for the 60 foot but you know what I mean.

Re: going to the track sat but another what will she run gue

Make sure the new diaphram has the sma part number as the bad one. They are 3 differnt rod legnths.

Hey. Just want to throw this out there. I feel you guys are doing something way wrong if you're only pulling 14.0 flat with your combos. I had a 350 making MAYBE 280 wheel HP. Compucam 2020 with vortec heads. worn BFG 225 15 inch tires w a 2.23 rear gear. TH350 w/ mild shift kit. Lowered with springs in the rear and spindles up front.

Ran 14.1 with a 2.4 60ft and a sway bar. took the sway bar off, ran a 14.0 with a 2.2 60 ft. bone stock rear end. I didn't spin off the line, just rolled out as quick as i could without spinning.

Are you sure you wheel bearings are in good shape? engine is tuned up proper? I know I ran a 14.0 with my primaries pretty lean, too lean for max power. Coulda done better with a better tune. Also, my throttle wasn't working right last year so it never opened past 90%. Also had many other issues. Are you overfilling your oil? Are you using quality syntethic lubricants? Is your airflow restricted? Because seriously the car easily could have easily run faster with slicks. like 13.5s. And I live in Edmonton, Alberta...pretty high up. Bad air.

I really think that you could be pulling better times with your current combo. There may be other areas of performance yo are overlooking.

Re: going to the track sat but another what will she run gue

Also how are your plugs gapped? I gapped mine DOWN from .5 to .30 and picked up 2/10ths! Also, I picked up another 10th on average switching from Castrol 0w40 to Royal Purple 5w30! Over almost 20 runs I noticed the NOTICEABLE differences from these two mods. Especially the plugs! Gap them down more, see how it goes. I didn't make any better times lowering them past .3 . Also if youre just drag racing, pull half a quart of oil out of your pan, if it's a stock pan. with a good quality synthetic your motor will be okay if you're down 1/2 a quart. and youll probably cut down windage.
another cheap way to change your effective gear ratio without breaking the bank is Tires Size! Try going from a 60 to a 55 or 50. raises your effective gear. I always run with at least 1/2 a tank of gas, too, for traction. Also i let the car warm up, keep it warm in the staging lane, and lock the choke open. airfilter off on race day, but i keep the drop-base on. also try changing your timing by 1 degree increments and see if you run faster/slower! I ran only 29 degees total advance, i noticed no difference with more than that. maybe it would show up on a dyno but advance over 29 degrees (906 vortec heads) didn't show any difference in gas mileage or track. also, I shifted at only 5300. I never went faster shifter at a higher RPM. just my 0.02.

i ended up changing out the secondary spring also, seems to like the short yellow 1 the most, huge and i mean huge difference,it now wants to spin through all gears, i got my plugs gapped at 40 but im also using a msd 6a box with a flame thrower coil,i got it tuned perfect now, just waiting for a weekend im off work to go back, couple pics from under the hood

14.0 with a 2.7x 60' time is amazing for that setup. I don't even know how its possible to pull one that terrible. Does your track do like, zero prep? lol

Anyways, cut that short time down to a typical street tire number (2.1-2.2), and that car will be a low 13 second car. Which, with your setup sounds pretty damn good.

Re: going to the track sat but another what will she run gue

I have a very similar engine to yours, except I have a set of Trick Flow Kenny Duttweiller series heads on it. I pulled a best so far of 13.77@100 MPH and that was quite depressing. I found that the mechanical advance was seized up at 28 degrees so I swapped the distributor out and it had so much more power that I blew the rear end again... that was on 3.73 gears and now on 3.42 gears but haven't made it back to the track yet.

200-4R trans with shift kit and stock stall.
