Unlocked for a few rides around won't hurt the TC or lockup valve. But, don't forget to set the throttle valve cable. With the TV cable hooked to the carb and the engine off, push in the D-shaped button where it slips into the mounting bracket, twist the carb linkage to the stop and release the D button. This sets wide open throttle so the trans knows where to shift. Skip this step and keep driving and you'll have problems inside the trans.

Other please chime in with refinements or corrections.

Yes this is one thing thats makes me kind of nervous cause I know if I don't have the TV cable set right im gonna ruin my transmission. I found a great right up about setting the tv cable and what the tv cable actually does so I'm going to follow that. Give it a read amd see if it seems correct.

Great resource, thanks for sharing the info on the Forum. Much more detailed explanation. Unsure about the 'mandatory' TV spring, and I have the thing hanging in my car right now. Though, with no oil, I could probably drop the pan, and also switch to the better filter posted earlier.

What carb are you using? There is adjustable brackets for Holley, Edelbrock and Demon carbs. If you are running a mid to late 70's Qjet, it has the right linkage and the 307 TV bracket is the right one to use. As long as the cable has mild tension at idle and has full pull at full throttle you should be good. A gauge will tell you if the line rise is what it should be.

What carb are you using? .

Im using a holley 650. I ordered the correct bracket because the one that was on the car somone made and wasn't correct. I had a problem with the tv cable not returning after being pulled out this weekend. Figured out what the problem was this morning but broke the linkage that comes out of the trans case that the tv cable hooks up to. I started another thread about it cause I dont know where to get the part I'm looking for.

Finally got eveything buttoned up this morning. Put 4 qts fluid in the trans started it and put another 4 in. Was going to run the trans through the gears and check where the fluid was at. Pressed the brake pedal and click pedal went to the floor. Blew the rear wheel cylinder on the drivers side. I was getting so excited to drive the car now I gotta fix this.
