Gray man makes more sense later on.
I hired it done because; (A) This builder specializes in these and does everything in house including build and swing trusses and concrete work. (B) He was running a winter special and the price was decent. (C) He bragged about being able to finish in a couple weeks. (D) I saw a couple of his buildings and liked what I saw. (E) At the time, I was busy enough with work that I wouldn't have been able to do it myself. (F) His terms of payment seemed reasonable. 1/3 when we signed the contract, 1/3 after it's framed but before concrete and siding, and final 1/3 after it passes final inspection.
To his credit, he was hot out of the gate. His crew had the ground work done, holes dug, poles standing and fully framed in 2-3 days. He got his 2nd check and told me steel and insulation was being ordered and concrete in a couple days. That was 6 weeks ago. He said he was in the hospital, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. What irritates me is the lack of communication and repeated broken promises with no solid reasons. I'm not worried about the money and don't think he's gonna rip me off. If he overscheduled and can't deliver on time, I can deal with it. Just tell me what's going on.
Meanwhile, I'm essentially laid off until further notice and now would be a great time to be moving in and working on my stack of backlogged projects.
