At least it happened now.

If it broke that easy it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Better sooner and in your driveway than out on the open road!!
Agree wholeheartedly. If your sh*t's gonna break, better be near home. Last March, right outside my house. BJ pulled itself off of the lca.

If you can upgrade to a Muncie reasonably, I would. Probably lots of guys never hurt a Saginaw, but back in the day I converted a 71 Camaro from column shift auto to 4 speed using a Sag and parts from a wrecked 74 Camaro. That party only lasted 3 shifts. The Saginaw has gear size limitations because of the case.

I killed the Saginaw in my stock 78 Camaro 305 2 bbl just briskly moving through traffic....was NOT hammering on it. This was in 1982. Muncie went right in and the OE ITM shifter bolted to/worked on the Muncie, but I had to scrounge a reverse shift rod for it from a friend with a stash of manual trans stuff..

I've been running Saginaws out of Vega's & Monza's in both my '81 & the departed '72 Monte. I have only had a failure in one because of not knowning what I was doing trying to replace the main case/tailhousing gasket with out taking it apart. Leaked oil like a fountain (did a nice oil coat onthe underside of the car) & took out 2nd & 3rd bearings after some long highway driving (Pittsburgh to Harrisburg, Pa x3.) They are stronger than what everyone claims they are.

Bar50 is going to tear it apart and go through his secret stashes to find some parts. I took a break from the Salon yesterday and block sanded on my 55 Belair. This transmission thing has taken the wind out of my sails.

That's awesome he lives close enough, and is a trans guru that he can maybe get it back to workng status. You are so close to being finished with that beautiful Salon, all of us are pulling for ya!
Same thing happened when my 355 died, I yanked the engine/trans and then basked in my sorrows for a short time!
At least you're using the "therapy" time to work on the 55....that's gonna be another sweet shoebox when done!
