I worked the bumper over with a DA and have putty in a few places from the fall. I removed all the orange. Going to get it primed in a couple hours. I actually have a section coming into contact with the deck lid upon closing. I bent the top a little for clearance. Going to mock it up before painting. When I did mock up before, the deck lid was not on the car.

I mocked up the bumper again and am having an issue. With the new trunk seal, I have to slam the trunk pretty hard. The bottom of the deck lid is smacking my bumper. I re adjusted my latch where it's a bit above the top of the quarters after shut. Now I can push hard on the middle of the deck lid at the lock and it will latch. I think I'll go to Ace hardware tomorrow and look for thin push in square rubber bumpers. I'm worried that the flex in the old body mounts will let the bumper contact the trunk lid during driving. So the rubber bumpers will hopefully keep that from happening. This is common on tri five Chevys and they have a round push in rubber bumper. I want a square one so it does not stick out. So no primer today cause I may be drilling a hole for a push in style rubber bumper. I know rubber seals take a seat over time. So when it seats, I'll re adjust the latch and let it seat again.

This is a square push in but it's too big. This is how close my deck lid is to my widened bumper.

I got home from work and installed my custom trunk bumpers. Works perfect and will save the paint. Bad news is, I was on my phone and had the Salon running. I did not push in on the clutch and put it in reverse. It screetched and killed the engine. It started back up and goes in 1st but when I'm driving and put it in 2nd it's making a clicking sound and it keeps clicking until I stop. Even when I go back to first. I removed the side cover and the forks look fine but can't see anything obvious. But it's too hard to see up in there. Gonna drop trans this Friday morning to see what the hell I broke. This was my own stupidity but I'm about to throw a cover on it and work on my 55

Check the Throwout bearing

Damn, your luck hasn't been the best as of late. Hope it's nothing too serious. I too would inspect the throw out bearing and the clutch disc springs.

Hang in there Robert. It's a really nice car. We all have to get through the setbacks. I understand your frustration. I've taken some pretty bad lumps over the years.

So you guys think it could have damaged the throwout bearing or a clutch spring even with clutch not engaged? I would be happy to just replace those over tearing trans apart. I'll be the first to say, I'm not a manual trans expert, but it seems that it would have broken something internally. I'm not looking forward to removing that heavy cast iron some b*tch but I need it fixed asap. I put in my notice at work. I'm giving my Salon 7 days to get finished. After that, I'm getting on my 55 for one month. Going to get it painted and driveable with no interior. I have three cars coming to work on for other people. I set it up for $45 per hour labor plus materials/parts. I also informed them that I'm to be paid every two weeks. I'll also send progress photos by email or text. Both customers were very happy with my pay plan. I know a couple shop owners that work this same way and they are successful. I'll be working out of my garage for now but future plans will be either renting/leasing or building a shop here. I may even hire a helper in a couple months. One of my pet peeves when I worked at other body shops is the old cars sitting not getting worked on. The last body shop I worked at, a 76 Vette had been there 5 years. The owner was there at least 3 times a week wanting his car worked on. I made it my personal project and it left in a month. I'm not trying to sound like I'm a bad *ss miracle worker, I just get out there and stay hooked up. A lot gets accomplished if you bust your *ss hard enough.

Thanks Jared. Looking forward to meeting you in September. I appreciate all the positive replies not just from you but from everyone here also. You guys keep me motivated

Does it make the noise in reverse?
