I'm using Summit Racing Equipments line of base/clear paints. It layed down nice and I'm going to continue using it. My new Devilbiss spray gun is awesome. Got it from Summit too. My old Binks gravity was wore out. I had it since about 1998.

Holy smokes, I had to ride my motorcycle to the paint store about 6 miles away from me. Its 39 degrees. Sucks being without a car in winter. Had to get some fast hardner for my clear. Think I'll thaw out a little before I go back outside

I was getting all pumped up to see some pictures! 🙁 but that's ok...
Better to be bummed for a little now rather than everytime you look at the car!

Just ordered another gallon of the paint from Summit. I went ahead and put up shop for the day. Looks like no paint work till next week. Now I'll have to go get some gray scotchbrites to scuff it down. Son of a ,,,,,,,,,

Ahh sucks to hear, been there myself 🙂 If I am not mistaken the Summit line is Kirker. Not too bad, it will lay down well and last. I use to spray with a Devilbiss JGV572, sprayed good enough for me. Chevelle was the last car I sprayed with it. Since then, I have a frugal bug in me and bought a Warwick 904 LVLP Suppose to be an Iwata 400 copy, never sprayed with an Iwata but it laid down the SPI black I sprayed out of it to paint the Lincoln was slick right out of the gun.

I spent a couple hours trying to freshen up one of my grilles. I painted it satin black then used chrome vinyl from a sign shop on the outer face. Trimmed it out with a razor blade. I used some Testors model enamel black on the Oldsmobile emblem to make it look new again. the grilles were not shiney at all. They turned gray. I found a new in the box RH grille on ebay so I attempted to make this one look new.

I've only ever used Summit's urethane primer surfacer before, and I wasn't too terribly impressed. Mixing/spraying was just like the PPG stuff I was used to using in the body shop I used to work at, but when it came time to sand it, the difference came apparent. Usually, primer surfacer is supposed to be highly sandable, as it's what you use to block sand, but this stuff acted like a sealer or something and wanted to gum up the sandpaper rather than powder up. I've refrained from using anything else from them since.

A problem you will also come across with low VOC paints are that they don't cover that great.
