HAFRODs 78 Aeroback Salon build

Got off work early today and instantly went to work on the Salon. I got the deck lid and both bumpers buffed. I got the front bumper mocked up to match up the stripe lines. I'll be painting the gold on the bumpers Friday. I also need to get my custom lower air dam sanded so I can paint it with black base then matte cleared. I absolutely love the lifted up and tucked painted bumpers. It does not even look like a 78 Salon in the front anymore with the H4 headlights, 80 Calais grilles, custom turn signal lens', shaved header emblem, and tucked painted bumper. I have my fiber optic indicators almost ready to wire up. I installed colored 3mm LED lights in place of the fiber optic tubes. I got blue for hi beam, orange for turn, and white for headlights on. The problem is they are too bright aiming toward me. I fixed that by smoking the lens' in the housings.

very nice, personally I think that front end is the one I like least in the gbody lineup ( eyes looked too far apart thing IMO ) but you made it look damn good !

I could have taken a cruise through my neighborhood but with open manifolds it would be obnoxious. I think I'll build a temporary exhaust so I can be sure there's no knocks or clatters. It smells fat so I may need to go smaller on my primary jets. I got all the windshield mouldings buffed and installed. I also fixed my emergency brake and got it adjusted. I was getting ready to bolt on all my new air conditioning parts when I changed my mind. Going to get all the bugs worked out and make sure everythings good with the engine before I put all that crap on. I'm going to wait on the hood install too
pffft. in my neighborhood the only one who gives a damn about loud exhaust is my tweaker neighbor. but no one cares what he thinks. i basically ran open manifolds on my old '70 thunderbird for 6 months. missing donut gaskets.

Tomorrows plan is to get the gold on the bumpers and paint the lower air dam. While those are drying I'm going to start building my exhaust. I'm going to take my wife for a ride in it Sunday. I bought a Y pipe to put at the trans crossmember hump. I bought some misc. 45s and 90s. Going to do a stock style exhaust with dual turbo mufflers and exit them behind the rear tires.

I get started building exhaust with the car under the car port on ramps. Here comes the damn rain. Funny how I am at work and it's blue skies. Get my days off and it's always gotta freakin rain

So I built a temporary exhaust system with a turbo muffler. I started it and as I suspected, a clicking noise coming from the lower front of the engine. I removed the Proform balancer cover and put it back together. Fixed it. I think the cover is flexing because it's thin. I did not read the instructions so maybe it's supposed to be siliconed on or something. While it was sitting there, it was burning my eyes. I adjusted the air bleeds and checked the float levels. It still smelled fat. I pulled a plug and it was getting black. I pulled the float bowl and swapped out the jets from 66 to 62. I did not have any jets in between so I may have it too lean now but it's not stinking now. I don't ever recall having to put in 62 jets in a 600 vacuum secondary Holley on a stock 350 with a mild cam. I got excited and jumped in and drove two laps around my neighborhood. It does not feel wobbly but there is some play in the steering box. The steering wheel is not clocked straight but not too far off. I was rolling about 25 and revved it up and dumped the clutch. It got a lot sideways with no bogging. I actually thought I was going to hit a mail box. It runs fantastic and left matching stripes. I'm typing this up and having a celebration with a Henrys hard soda. I'm really excited to finish this car now. This is the longest drive it's had since 2008
