Guys,
My 82 Grand Prix was a diesel car when it left the factory. When I bought it, the diesel was long gone and in its place was a 400 SBC and a four speed. Unfortunately the installation of the 400 was a hack job. When I pulled the 400 there was no heater control valve. I'm thinking when I go back together I need to have a heater control valve, especially since I'm in Houston and the efficiency of the air conditioner is important.
From looking at Rock Auto, I see that the diesel would have had the typical Oldsmobile heater control valve that threads into the back passenger corner of the intake manifold. Obviously that's not going to work. I think this one, which is for an 86 Monte with A/C should work.....
My concern is whether I still have the hard vacuum line from inside the car to control this. When I tore my engine compartment down I had two hard vacuum lines from inside the cabin. Both came through the firewall under the A/C case on the passenger side. A pink one and a grey/green one. The pink one was connected to the round plastic vacuum canister next to the accumulator (drier). The other was connected directly to manifold vacuum. My thinking is the pink one is the vacuum source to the HVAC control and the grey/green one should be for the heater control valve. Am I correct or am I all wet?
Anybody have a good picture of an original setup?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
