I have an 86 monte carlo with 305. It has all the sudden decided not to start. I have checked everything. I have 12v to the dizzy, i have fuel, I checked the control module it is good. Is there something I am missing? It ran fine until friday and now it wont start. Any help from you guys would be great.
thanks matt

Starter? ...what happens when you try to start it?

Many miles on it? I had a worn timing chain gear that caused the chain to jump, that will do just as your describing. IF thats your problem, it's time for a new timing chain/gears.
Good luck

Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. Air, fuel, compression, spark. What is missing from the equation? Do you have spark? Is the rotor burned up in the distributor?(hole on the rotor) Fuel good? (Good Gas,Not bad gas) Timing correct? Enough compression from the pistons? (100 PSI)..Spark Plugs good? Not fouled..

Did you check the coil in the cap?, or check for spark?

Starter is fine. I have tested everything. compression fuel no vaccum leaks. Spark is what i am missing. I have new plugs and wires. coil and module are new. cap and rotor are good. Could it just be my timing chain? The engine only has 49,000 miles on it. It did have a little miss fire before it died. I have checked for broken wires everywhere. Already checked all the fuses. I feel like it might be the timing chain. The distributor was timed to stock specs. I feel like maybe my chain may have went bad. Or I am just skipping over something. Thanks for all the replies.

If the chains bad it will still spark either way. So if your missing spark its an electrical issue,If you have power at the dizzy pull the rotor and see if there is a small round resistor under it some have em some dont . Also be sure the plugs ins are in the cap securely. Do you have a tach in the car? If so does it move when your cranking it over?

No tach in the car. I got a new module still doesn't start. There is small round resistor I replaced it a few months ago when i saw the wires on it were getting bad. I looked at all the wires for bad ones. Plugs are on good and tight. I had to replace the module twice in two days cause it kept over heating and melting the top. but now it is fine and don't melt after i crank it a few times.

if the module was overheating that is a sign the coil is nfg....if it's not overheating the module now the coil is probably not working at all now
