Just bought this El Co - inside mirror was on the floor when I got it. Got the little mirror hanging kit and glued button. Next morning hung mirror and it immediately fell.

WASH RINSE REPEAT, WASH RINSE REPEAT. This will be the fourth time this week. What is the deal?

I have successfully hung many mirrors before. Yes the windshield is clean, yes only one drop on the button, no, the mirror is not heavy, ?????

I've had these fall off before, but it's usually over time...a year or so..maybe. Are you using the Permatex kit? I also tried scuffing up the metal mounting button with like an 80 grit sandpaper.
I also clean the area with some lacquer thinner, even though you get an alcohol pad with it. I use a slight bit more than a drop on it. Whether it makes a difference or not...I don't know.

How are you cleaning it all?

I've used 3 or 4 of those kits over the years and never had a problem. I usually scuff the pad and small area of glass it touches with a scotchbrite pad. Then clean it with rubbing alcohol. Then apply the glue, stick it in place, and holt it there tight with my thumb for about 5 min. The mirror goes on the next day.

I remember one of the ones I did on a buddy's car. A few months later we replaced the windshield. But the new one didn't have the pad for a mirror. So my buddy just grabbed the mirror pulled it off. It was glued on so well the pad was still covered in glass after he removed it lol.

make sure the old glue isn't on the windshield...

could you possibly have the wrong button for your mirror? Just a shot in the dark

Thanks for the input - I cleaned the glass with windex once, with brake cleaner another time.

I actually put the button under the wire wheel on my bench grinder once.

I'm thinking the old glass might be out-gassing or porous or something.

At the junkyard one time I saw a mirror, button, and a circle of glass stuck to the back of it - the bond should be permanent.

you should be cleaning the glass with the supplied materials in the adhesive kit. they work and work well

Temp has a lot to do with this too....if the glass is very hot or very cold, the glue will hold, but the first warm day, or the first cold day...the expansion/contraction of the glass will break the bond. Try to install it when the window is fairly warm...but not hot....55-75F ...JMO
