here we go - your next drop-in swap

You have to know that people will buy this.

It will be in cars at Barrett Jackson, at SEMA or PRI. It will have all of the bragging rights to go with the people that go to those auctions and drop serious coin on trailer queens.

‘1000hp and we have a dyno sheet to go with the car’ will be the claim. And then once one of these overly wealthy people decide to actually drive it, you’ll find a video of some guy in Dodge Aspen with swapped LS turbo and junkyard 4L80 walk this guy like he was his pet dog. Kinda like Hellcat and Mustang guys.

I will admit though, I’m ultra curious of a transmission arrangement that will drive like a normal car and handle a NA 1000hp big block. I’ll guess the trans and converter will be close to $8k setup to be reliable and driveable.

I shouldn’t rant, it’s not becoming lol.

White New Balance gif’s are spot on but it’s hard to get upset at a brand new 1,000 hp crate motor no matter how overpriced or “antiquated” the tech is.

No one is making anyone buy it, it will be for the high dollar show car only cars referenced above.

I understand the cool factor of a big cube monster, but that kind of torque is going to Kung-pow you into a power pole after the cars and coffee meet right after the mustang clears the crowds out.

This is a WAY better idea, is WAY sexier and makes cool blower sounds... For $12k less.

Sexy is in the eyes of the beholder. It's a hard pass for me, especially for the money. I'd rather invest in building an 8.1 stroked to a 540, and not dealing with all the LS-related conversion bull.

Besides, not only is there still no replacement for displacement, but, a deep rumbling big block sounds much better than an ls, blower or not. (As a bonus you can toss a twin screw blower onto the 496-turned-540 as well and be even further ahead of the game, and, be about $7k cheaper excluding any ls-related conversion/infrastructure costs.

That 427? Maybe throw it in cheap late model camaro and replace the existing ls. Could have it's place here and there. Then again, I wouldn't buy or invest in said camaro myself either 😆. Stepdads old zl1 still sits, still under 3k miles, and we still only keep it because it was his.

They make other options... Still cheaper and the same size...

or for those who love carbs.

‘Kung-pow’

I LOVE it.

I agree Jake, the idea of a 1000hp crate motor is fabulous, but I get hung up on the idea that 90% of the people that this appeals to have no idea what a 1000hp is under their right foot. The remaining 10% understand that they can find 1000hp for a 1/5th the cost with a turbo and for 1/3 of the cost with a Procharger. Which prompts anyone that legitimately is ready for 1000hp to shop elsewhere.

I guess I’ll have to wait to see one in a car, or multiple cars with one before I should pass judgment.

I don’t really see any reason to bye a 1000 hp non street engine crate motor . A 632 would be considered small at the track by todays standards. And your probably going to get embarrassed by some kid with a junkyard LS and Chinese turbo. All that aside I would like to build a 632 to drive on the street. I have always like big c.i. engines on the street .

My buddy has a 69' Nova that previously had a 598 BBC but tore the car and the engine apart and it is now a 632, he knew I was building a new 565 BBC for my Monte so I think he just wanted to make sure I didn't catch up to him in cubic inches.
And yes it is a street car, he runs a GearVendors behind a TH400 which helps a lot.

I think, to some extent, it may be a 'we built it because we could' project inside gm? Granted, moves like that were more common decades ago, but, you do have to wonder what the practical purpose they expected these to be used in was?

It's almost like with the electrification push some guys in the ICE development programs found themselves with money allocated before next-gen projects were scrapped. Then some time goes by and the funds remained in the dept account. Couple week later, two guys got to talking over a scotch in an executive office and decided amongst thenselves... f it, why not?

Once it was built. They unveiled it around the boardroom, and the decision was... well, we've got plenty of backlash over this whole abandon the ICE thing from the non-millenial crowd so... it's here. We've got the parts to throw a limited run together. Let's make some money back.
