There's a guy in my area that has done LS swaps since about 1999/2000 and has learned that any builds he does that are above the 700hp (LT4) range he has the customers sign a waiver not to hold him responsible if they smash it.
I think for a lot of people they never had anything "fast" but now have the money to buy or have something built that is, but they skip the learning curve that many of us go through progressively adding power over years of building our cars.

Could do it for less than that. Uhaul has been retiring the rest of their BBC trucks, you can get a decent running engine as a running/driving cab/chassis, under 150k miles with maintenance records. Price $2000-3000 with title with an Allison auto, tires you can sell, and thousands of dollars of scrap metal assuming you didn't try to part anything out from the tilt nose, doors, seats, column, axles, etc.

I kind of want to chop a dozen or so and mothball core engine/trans units at low cost.
Interesting...locally, they are $7K and up with miles 156K and up

I think location has something to do with it. Being near Atlanta and Jacksonville helps.

I think 64nailhead has it right. Most people really have no idea what 1000hp is under the right foot. A lot guys may have four, five even somewhere in the 700hp which is something to pay attention to when your cruising the road. There's a guy in my area that has done LS swaps since about 1999/2000 and has learned that any builds he does that are above the 700hp (LT4) range he has the customers sign a waiver not to hold him responsible if they smash it. He's listened a few guys leave his shop and within 60 seconds destroyed their cars because of a 1000hp build. That's ALOT of money "Gone in 60 Seconds"
Thanks. And the guy in your area that has a waiver signed is funny, but also a great idea. He should include a video of Mustang fails as part of the requirement to drive their new build off from the lot - DON'T PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN SPINNING.

I think for a lot of people they never had anything "fast" but now have the money to buy or have something built that is but they skip the learning curve that many of us go through progressively adding power over years of building our cars.
They seen it on TV, Youtube or .... somewhere, and of course they assume that it requires little to no skill to drive something like that. What most of them don't realize is that every modern 'super car' has some form of torque or traction management that is run by a computer. And these people still wreck these things because they can't drive at 700-800hp. Those same people don't understand that there is virtually no difference on a street tire between 600hp and 900hp, but they still want 1000hp to brag about.

Regarding skill level, back in the mid 2000's Formula 1 made a rule that made traction control illegal. The reason being that it took very little skill to drive those cars; meaning that the technology was winning, not the driver. The beneficiary of traction control was Fernando Alonso if my memory is correct.

=====================

I agree with both of you.

This crate engine isn’t supposed to appeal to guys like us who do their own work. We’re not the intended audience, this things for guys that have $$$ and don’t want the hassle of building it, or they just can’t build it. I bet the large majority of these will go right to high end car builders who’s customers want 1000hp drop in…

Who was it that said GM wouldn't advocate to put that motor in front of the 4L75?

Me. I said it was ridiculous. I'm am shocked and awed by the absurdity. This motor is clearly for the boomer crowd, who isn't going to do more than a weekend romp to a weekend cars and coffee if you put anything 4L60 based behind it.

It's for the boomer who already has everything and still has money to burn. Which is how it makes 1000 hp on pump gas with 12:1 compression. You turn a huge wad of bills into a fine powder, and add some into every tankful in large, carefully measured quantities.

Sure would be fun in a G-body .... if it didn't cost more than your other 4 or 5 builds combined just for the motor and transmission ....
