High idle or just crazy?

just an update, i went over to work on the brakes and it started raining so i decided to give up for the day and check on the motor. the exhaust manifolds are no longer smoking, the carb and thermostat is good, i kicked the throttle and the idle went super low (i thought it was going to stall but it never did) and i think there is a squirrel that once lived in my exhaust. i keep finding burnt fur and nuts out the exhaust every time i start it. the car is actually in alot better condition that i make it sound, the only things bad with it is the back brake lines need to be replaced, and it needs some freon for the AC to work, but besides that its a solid car. also the bleeders in the front freed up, ive yet to try the back, but the fronts came off easy with a 6 point socket.

There ya go. In cold weather, if you kick the idle down before the motor is warm enough, it runs crappy. Especially if the EFE (heat riser) is not working. That goes for the THERMAC air cleaner too. It sends hot air to the carb so it runs better. Is there a tube going from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner? Are the vacuum hoses intact? If that stuff is not working then the motor will take a long time to get to operating temperature and smooth running.

well i only let it run for like 2 mins before kicking it down, i really have to let it run for longer i just need to stop by the gas station again so i can refill the tank.

Ohhh so that tube from the exhaust to the intake is to heat up the gas going in? thats so weird i was wondering what was the point of that. ill have to check the 2 vacuum lines that i took off when i took off the air box, to make sure i put them back in correctly
