High idle or just crazy?

anyone who suggests compression fittings on a brake line should not be working on brakes. What kind of flaring tool did you buy that only comes for one size of tube? If you look at the cost of a tool, the brake line, the fittings and the time you'll take to replace the brake line you will easily recoup that money and save alot of time selling the car.
I bought the ridged tool for like 60 and I had to buy the 3/16 dye for 15, that was before I realized the 1/4 was bad too. They charge 55 for the 1/4 dye

That seems to be a bit expensive but to put another $55 into a car you'll easy get that back selling the car. I don't know how you expect someone to buy a car without being able to test drive it. If you don't want to fix the brakes I'd call the guy who offered $1,500.

Shoot I already put in like 650 I might as well put in that extra 55 plus whatever the brake line costs

it's not like your putting $55 into the car, you'll still have the tool after the car is sold and the cost of the brake line will add value to the car. New rear brake line in the ad will help sell the car.

I would like to make one last post on this....

I think you have people locally that are interested, and would consider your price point IF the car was driveable.

I say this because I personally do not go look at $4000 cars if I think it's a $1000-1500 car. No point, IMO.

My opinion is that if you really desire to sell the car at your price, you need to properly repair the brake lines, flush the fluid (mention this in the ad), and at least look into and KNOW what it will take to get the tags/plates current.

It is my belief that with this (relatively) minimal investment, you stand the chance of getting 2/3 times what the car will bring as-is.

I really hope you can find a good home for it, it deserves better than being somebody's $1000 winter beater

If you don't want to spend the money O'reilly will let you use theirs for FREE. $50 to $100 will by a great kit w/ double flair tools and a tubing cutter for all brake line sizes. Have you been able to open the bleeders to bleed the brakes?? As I said, after 25 years your probably going to find other issues - your rocker covers are probably leaking on the exhaust manifolds causing smoke.

I would be very cautious about the bleeders- -even with my 30 year old, non winter driven, rustproofed car, it was an hours worth of effort to crack open the bleeders without damage(including heating and cursing and praying). Just fix the leak and hope the brakes are ok.

...and those 8 mm / 5/16" can be very troublesome and hard to reach because they're recessed & rusty.

If you can't get the bleeders open use a torch to heat them up and try them. They are only a few dollars at Auto zone for new bleeder screws. If u kill he bleeders trying to get them open the wheel cylinders themselves are also pretty cheap. I just did both of them on my cutlass and it only cost me about $13 with shipping from rockauto. Brake lines are also pretty cheap, I stripped a fitting while doing my wheel cylinders so I bought a 30 inch section that was already flared and had the right fittings on it from car quest for $4 and bent it myself.
