Re: Home built auto rotisserie from cherry pickers

I'm wondering how you get the body onto the rotisserie and how you get the body elevated. Do you have to go back and forth to each side to lift it. Something like this would have helped me and saved a dozen t-shirts from getting burn holes in them from welding up and not down when I did my body off...

What will end up happening, is I will have to unbolt the body from the frame, and have it sit on 4x4's and jack stands separated from the frame. Then roll the chassis out, then position the rotisserie on the front and back of the body. What is nice is the body doesn't need to be real high to get the rotisserie under it. I'll end up having in the back wheels off the rear, and on a dollie so the hump of the frame will clear the floor.

My last few cars I did laying on my back, no more of that crap!

The rotisserie is going make it a pleasure to work on the body. It's coming out great, BTW. 8)
It gets harder working on your back. :?

Re: Home built auto rotisserie from cherry pickers

I just started a body off resto on an A body and since a bare body is not all that heavy I used my cherry picker, thru the side and connected straps to the floor seatbelt holes, a strap to each front lower door hinge bolts and a couple straps inside to the back where the inner wheel tubes and interior metal all weld together, it lifts very easy and high, only drawback is the frame needs to be pulled out sideways.

That's for sure! I'll have more pics soon. I just have not been really taking many more pics of the progress, but the unit is simple enough to build, one can see what need to get welded where. 😀

I have done that before, but my shop is only 16 feet wide, 44 feet long, so I have to pull the chassis out from the front. No room to do it from the side. 🙁

Re: Home built auto rotisserie from cherry pickers

Figured I would bump this up. I did more work on it over the past few days. The adapters for the body are made and painted Hammertone Silver. Both pivot heads are build now and one is painted. I have just a few more pieces to make, get the rest in paint, and it is done!. No pics right now, sorry, I keep forgetting. 🙁 I have a busy next few days, so I don;t thinkI will be making any real progress till Monday.

We will be getting a few 70 degree days next week, I am anxious to get this done and the body on it!

I am the same way with pictures, not time for them when I'm trying to get something done. 😀

hope you get the good weather so you can get the body mounted... 🙂

I snapped a quick pic just to keep the thread followers interested, 😀 . Forgive the sh*t in the background. But you can see where I am going with it at this point. I have some more to do tonight when I get home from my Daughters dance class. I'll try and remember to get some pictures hen.
