no, i've sort of heard about it . but never seen an example of doing it...
i guess your buddys luck is sort of like mine... i envy your job working in a race shop, i spent most of my time as a gm line mechanic... .... the guys that know how to set a g body, don't tell any body, or i just haven't found them yet.....but i'am doing the best i can...i really think i'll just go with 50/50 shocks...they might be easier to sneak past the old lady 😀 ...jesse

the frames on the G body need to be stiffened up to keep the car heading in the right direction..we use hockey pucks for the body bushings and all the factory welds on the frames are basically redone..and the cage really helps to stiffen up the car....I was an aircraft mech for a little over decade and now I run a paralegal business so getting out of the office and into the shop to use my hands is a welcome change....plus I leaned alot about setting up cars and it's helped out on my Grand Prix....oh and shocks fit real nice into a gym bag which I'm sure the wife will be pleased that you like to stay in shape just for her... 8)

hooked up

my wife asked me last year where i wanted to go with my car and i told 11.49 thats when they make you install a cage,as for going straight my car would always go side ways with the old posi twist...on the track it wasn't as bad, after installing the anti roll bar it goes straight on the street and track
last week i went out to the street in front of my house and with cold tires at 20 psi i launched it and i went straight so i don't know if i need to weld the frame up now,i'll post pics tomorrow so you can see what i'am talking about 😀

You also have to realize that when the body/frame flexes that it will rob power and slow you down.

hook up

do you know if some one sells a kit or is it one of those get some metal and weld it in your self?

it's get some steel and weld it yurself.. don't forget to move any lines or hoses out of channel....

another thing about flex and twisting is that it makes the car unpredictable..

Hey Jesse, I think the car is hitting the tires a little too hard, which is why it hops like that. Move the rear of the lower control arm up to the next hole on the bracket and see if that smooths things out some. Its a little hard to tell in that video, but it looks like it is leaving pretty flat. If your track allows it, see if your crew can get up closer with the camera and get some tighter shots. Once you get that hop tamed down, smack it with all of the power you have and hang on 🙂

As pontiacgp stated, the frames on these cars are wet noodles.

I don't think you you need to get out the welder just yet.

There are a bunch of braces that GM made across the Gbody line. I have all of them on my wagon and it really, really helps.

Not sure how many came "stock" on an SS.

Also put in Poly body bushings. Get a set for a Gran National and install all of them.Get the black ones, the red ones seem to be more squisey.

Some cars had "dummy" bushings in various spots. I always bolt them in.

I just installed a set in a my 78 Cutlass, the center bushing (under the door sill plate area) was a dummy stock. Pulled it out and the cage was there? I got an extra bolt (it 1 inch shorter then the rest) and bolted it in.

That's 2 of us that suggested raising the arms.

one thing I did to stiffen up the back end was to install one of those hidden trailer hitches....

hey Jesse....I saw in another thread you switched out the 200 4R for the 700 R4 in an SS....your not using the 700 in your drag car are ya?

hook up

yeah,i'am running a 700r4 that i built myself...i had to press out the input shaft so i would not have to buy another converter... the 700r4 is a late model with a 200r4 input shaft  i put a corvette servo and a plane jane over haul kit with b/m shift kit...i need to work on the governor ,it will shift its self a wot at 5800 rpms into second gear...but it holds second until i shift it at 6000rpms...
i know its the weak link :!: but i'am going to drive it till it breaks
