not meaning to criticize and you probably already know this but the 700r4 is known for it's low 1st gear but it hits a wall when it drops into second and is costing you time to get down the track...if you can build your own transmission then why not do up the 200r4...there are GN's out the doing 10 second runs with a 200r4.....

hook up

the 200r4 burnt the second gear band twice, even with big pump and b/m shift kit..
i will give the 200r4 all it's dues...at the time all this happend, 1997 there wasn't very many shops messing with high perf 200r4 trans and no updates ....
my 200r4 had over 200,000 miles on it when i started messing with the car so when it burnt up the first time i kinda thought it would so i over hauled it an it did the same thing.... i had a 700r4 laying around the shop , an working on a real tight budget..knowing that i could use my converter it was a no brainer.... i would like to give the 200r4 another chance but being on the budget that i'am on i'am going with a 350thm ...i don't have to chane anything, but the trans and coverter...i'am thinking maybe a 3800 stall, what do you think?

the 350 will work great...the gearing is almost identical to the 2004r and I know all to well what it's like working on a budget....as far as the stall converter though I have no idea on what you need to look at when choosing what stall rate will do you best...

hook up

do you know the meaning of hitting the tires to hard?

hookup

thanks for the link 😀 now it makes sense as to way i need to move my lower arm up one hole to move the ic forward.... man i wish i had the money to buy adjustable shocks both front and rear 🙁 at least i don't have that far to go,to get the best out of it
i'am thinking that my car with a 350 trans could go into the 11.s just on the motor, what do you think?

shotgun...... thanks for the advice on the control bar ajustment ,that means you have a car set up like this? ... i swear that guys that know how to set one up won't give out the infomation...i thank you guys for all the help 😀 ... my old lady let me buy the anti-roll bar for my birthday,uh i didn't tell her it needed to me welded in  ..don't get me wrong the woman is my biggest fan and sponsor and we've been married for 28 years.... but she's getting tired spending money on [ that old car]

Yep, my rear had the lower mounts similar to yours. It took some doing because how they were welded  , but I was able to get my adjustible arms back into "stock" positions.

There's more to it then that but off the trailer went 1.46, so I must be doing something right.

hooked up

wow!!!! man thats the number i'am looking for...after all my passes i look at what the other guy was doing as far as there 60z and most of the cars run in the 1.50s.... and there not beating me to bad and i give them a honest run...
what times does your car run? and how much do you race? and how did you learn what to do to hook up?

My first outing with the car did not go well.

Slick track, old undesized BFG radials ended up with smoke to about the 300 foot mark!

Managed a best of 11 flat, leaving in second, granny out of the hole (1.90 60") and banging the rev limter at the top end.

Second outing, changed nothing but the tires to 30x9 GoodYear radial slick.

First run lifted the tires, 1.47 60' 10.29 @ 130mph.

Backed it up later with a 1.46 60' 10.27 @130mph.

The car has 11 runs on it, only 4 "with traction".

I think I can get it into single digits with some suspension and engine tuning.

Heres a link to Malibu Racing, where I am in the process of making my own anti-roll/sway bar.

The above times are with "stock" suspension.

thanks guys, yeah its pulling the left tire 😀

If it's pulling to the left, install an adjustable airbag between the strut and frame on the left side. Do some passes for fun with the bag on different settings. Find which one works best, it will launch really straight without you working the wheel at all. This also opens up the opportunity (if you haven't already) to remove power steering or just loosen the pulley a lot.
