after all the debate i popped the cover and took this picture. Open or Posi?
Its an "opened" posi....

The first pic is a "full time" posi which keeps the 2 axles engaged. They release to allow the axles to turn at different speeds when turning a corner. The other is a "part time" posi that only engages when one axle slips enough to let a centrifugal weight engage the mechanism. 2 very different creatures.

axel cod is 3TG. from the picture you can still see the yellow markings on the gears to check back lash - this posi was added!

Someone may have blown up the original, or upgraded. Is it quiet?

to me it looks like it was installed recently cause the marking compound is still present...

Just proves once agan that we've all got our opinions and experiences but there's only one way to be sure of anything.
You want it done right you gotta do it yourself.....LOL

i have a detroit true trac in my 12 bolt. tires turn in opposite directions with them also. it had me kind of worried when i saw that. that's the first posi i had seen like that. it locks up just fine when you stand on it.

"to me it looks like it was installed recently cause the marking compound is still present..." Agreed. It's not even dirty!

that's an Eaton posi..better than an Auburn but hard to find the clutch packs, I'm really wondering how the wheels spun in an opposite direction tho

Heh. Was the transmission in "Park"? Was it hard or easy to turn?

I never thought of that....and that is the answer..nicely done
