Boost is always a good idea. I supercharged 3800 swapped my dd a few years back 🙂

Yup I'm far enough along in my w body Monte build I decided its time to dig into my g body cutlass build 🙂

Hey Larry,
Congratulations, man. I'm glad your ship came in...lol! Once it's all cleaned up, you'll have a better prospective of what you're working with.
Definitely keep us up to date on any upgrades and improvements.

As for the steering box, you may want to consider replacing it for a heavier duty 800 series unit. The one in it is probably the dreaded 605 with the round snap ring cover on top.

Jack,
Thanks!! The box you spoke of the exact box that is in there, is there a specific part number or vehicle that I can cross reference that with? I am in the process of getting the tailgate open now finally got it open and it looks like someone tried to break into from the back at one point. The spring that goes on the latch is missing so it doesn't spring back as it normally would would if the actual latch was functioning properly so I need to figure something out for that. The power seat still works the AC blows cold but it only blows out the top vents and I know these types of controllers are notorious for vacuum leaks in order to get it blow out the front vents so that is another project as well.

I will definitely keep you guys posted and possibly start a build thread, in the meantime I am looking for some 15 rally's for the car to take off those ugly wheels on there now.

Congrats! That thing looks loaded with options.

No more belly buttons... 😉

Larry,
The 605 steering boxes are notorious leakers. I've replaced two of them in my car over the years until I swapped it for a Monte Carlo SS quick ratio box. I have seen an article in Hot Rod Magazine which covers using the Jeep Cherokee...or Grand Cherokee steering box.
It is allegedly the quick ratio box, and the 800 series as used in GM cars. I'll have to find the article. You will no doubt have to replace the pitman arm, I'm sure it's different from the one in our cars. Forget about using the arm off the 605, it won't fit...it has a smaller shaft.
You can also get a reman'd box from Rock Auto, or even Autozone or Advance. You'll want one for a Monte SS, GN/ T-Type, 442/ H/O. The IROC/ Firebird TA boxes are the same, but have different internal stops for wider tires.

I think finding a set of 15" Olds rally wheels would be cool...even the chrome 442 wheels.
You're right about the issues with the HVAC controller. I actually went thru a few until I found a good one. You would think replacement diaphragms would be available for our cars.

Installing the 4.8 LS would be a definite improvement over the V-6.

Sorry, I don't have a spare spring for the rear latch. You might have to improvise. I had a spare tailgate that I gave to a friend with a Cutlass Cruiser, no less. Is it also missing the tailgate lock? If you don't mind a black one, they're available for the first generation S10 Blazer. They should be readily available from Advance or Autozone.
I'll try to find a link to it.

It sounds like you have enough to keep you busy for awhile...lol!!

I was always curious as to the ratio of the 98+ blazer steering boxes

Mike,
You talk about "belly buttons". Why are putting a Chevy engine in your Pontiac? 😛

Since it's an 82 it will have the bubble flare/o-ring fittings. The older cars have inverted flare fittings. You could upgrade to the Monte SS steering gearbox which has a heavier feel and fewer turns lock to lock (faster ratio). You can get a rebuilt box from Summit for about $100 shipped.

The 800 series gearbox takes a bigger pitman arm so you will need one of these....
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/290878717984

You might shop around on that pitman arm. You may find a better deal. I'm not sure, but it seems likely you will need a pitman arm nut and washer as well. I think RockAuto has the nut available new. Hope this helps.
