Mike,
You talk about "belly buttons". Why are putting a Chevy engine in your Pontiac? 😛
Larry,
The 605 steering boxes are notorious leakers. I've replaced two of them in my car over the years until I swapped it for a Monte Carlo SS quick ratio box. I have seen an article in Hot Rod Magazine which covers using the Jeep Cherokee...or Grand Cherokee steering box.
It is allegedly the quick ratio box, and the 800 series as used in GM cars. I'll have to find the article. You will no doubt have to replace the pitman arm, I'm sure it's different from the one in our cars. Forget about using the arm off the 605, it won't fit...it has a smaller shaft.
You can also get a reman'd box from Rock Auto, or even Autozone or Advance. You'll want one for a Monte SS, GN/ T-Type, 442/ H/O. The IROC/ Firebird TA boxes are the same, but have different internal stops for wider tires.
I think finding a set of 15" Olds rally wheels would be cool...even the chrome 442 wheels.
You're right about the issues with the HVAC controller. I actually went thru a few until I found a good one. You would think replacement diaphragms would be available for our cars.
Installing the 4.8 LS would be a definite improvement over the V-6.
Sorry, I don't have a spare spring for the rear latch. You might have to improvise. I had a spare tailgate that I gave to a friend with a Cutlass Cruiser, no less. Is it also missing the tailgate lock? If you don't mind a black one, they're available for the first generation S10 Blazer. They should be readily available from Advance or Autozone.
I'll try to find a link to it.
It sounds like you have enough to keep you busy for awhile...lol!!
You can go as wide as 275/60/15 with 4" of backspace on an 8" wheel. You may have to roll the fender lip. Due to loose tolerances from one car to another, there can be some variation on how the fit on one specific car, and even side to side.Yes I do!!! The steering box will get ordered Friday is this one a direct bolt on for the GN/Monte SS/442?
The front of the car will probably have nothing bigger than a 245, what is the largest size rear that can mount on this car without tubs?
The tailgate latch I will make this work no doubt I am pretty ingenious when it comes to stuff like that!

They are reliable engines, I agree.I will be throwing a chevy motor in mine as well!!! Can't beat the reliability!!
The steering box is a direct bolt on. You'll also have to see what fittings are on your PS hoses. Whether it's a flared end or o-ringed end, but that's easy to rectify.Yes I do!!! The steering box will get ordered Friday is this one a direct bolt on for the GN/Monte SS/442?

I believe the Monte SS box is 12.7:1 if I'm not mistaken. So after a Lil google it appears a 98+ blazer steer box has a claimed ratio of 13.1:1.....how does that compare to a Monte ss box?
