My name is Dan and I'm 25. My dad bought my '83 Monte new and over the years about 160k miles were put on it. I got it as my first car in 2006 and promptly wrecked it. Been working on it ever since although its been apart since 2011 as I have been broke college student. Hoping to throw it back together this summer so it can at least move under its own power.

At the time ('84-'85) I was attracted to the body style of the A/G-body wagons. To me the style was reminiscent of the mid '60's GM cars, Chevelle, Skylark/ Special, Lemans/GTO. etc.
I figured it would make a cool tow car and hauler for my Porsche. It actually towed it quite well, too. I had an opportunity to hook a tow bar onto it when I blew the engine in the Porsche out in Pennsylvania, approx. 4 hrs from home. It had it's old trusty 305 in it. It later was replaced with a 4-bolt 350 out of a mid-'70's Chevy van. The power difference was like night and day.

At any rate, I've owned my wagon approx. 31-32 yrs now...and I'm now 65 yrs young. I never thought I'd own it this long, but I grew attached to the old gal. As it was my daily driver for many years, I decided to accumulate parts for it and do it over one day. When I worked full time, I just didn't have the time to take it apart to refurb the body, etc. It was when I finally decided I had enough of working everyday, that's when I decided to go over the body, cut out any rust areas, replace panels, etc. I don't regret doing it...it was good therapy.
Money became a little tighter due to the lack of a steady paycheck..
That's basically my story. and I'm sticking to it.

I got into the G-bodies (and 5th gen A-bodies) simply through my love of the El Camino (I've owned a 1964, 1969, 1978, and my 1980 that I still have). I've had my 1980 for well over 20 years and I just turned 70 years old on the 27th of March.

Honestly wasn't expecting three pages since yesterday, but good to hear from you all. Good range of ages too.
I'm 30 and bought my gbody wagon when I was 27 I believe. Bought it right when my wife got pregnant with our first. I did it knowing I would never get the chance after. I'm still alive haha. My buddy got me into gbodys but I had a thing for wagons.
Best part about wagons, they're family cars! And I would rather have an old station wagon then a minivan.
There was more I wanted to say, but already forgot.

I'm 36. Between my father and my self we have had 25 78-80 Monte Carlos. We raced stock car in the mid 90s. I have had five of my own. Four drivers and one parts car. I fell in love with the body lines. When I was in high school every one had a g body. my first car was a 79 Monte Carlo. Built it from stock car parts and repainted it. I still have it, but it's in sad shape now. My some day project. I have a 80 Monte Carlo parts car I bought for 50 bucks about 10 years ago. My new one is a 80 Monte Carlo turbo that is super clean. That's the one I'm cruising and working on now. O and I have some other flavors of vehicles too.

I'm 56 going on 80 and got my first brand new car, '84 Cutlass Supreme, that I just loved in late '83. When I heard they were going to a FWD 4-banger in 1988, I tried to find a '87 442 and got lucky. Though the performance was horrible on late 70s-80s cars [even my 442 when I got it], I liked the G-body looks and lines and I now have my 442 actually running like one should so all is almost good. Now, per other posts, to make all that power hook up better, make the car turn, and stop . . . [details]!

I'm 132 years young, and got my Malibu because I couldn't deal with bifocals on a motorcycle.

I guess I'm running a close second behind Vanrah - will be 68 this year. I just like this older car market (esp G-bodies) and making them go fast. Enjoy the cruises but can't stand sitting behind your car for hours telling stories. Love the comradery at the track and hope I can enjoy it for years to come. Lucky to have my son & his wife enjoy this with me and possibly get his daughter in a Jr dragster. Hopefully get the Sonoma out soon.
