Yes, I did it all the "correct" way according to the DMV website as well as per phone conversation with the Title Bureau office in Albany. When I did it for my '77 TA it took a long time but went smoothly. But the TA was currently registered in the usual way with the two-year plates. I lost a years registration on that deal. Then I titled and registered a 1983 Yamaha that I had no paperwork on. What I did was to buy a bare frame from a guy in Ohio just to get a clean VIN. Then I transferred the motor and all the parts on to that frame and submitted it to DMV with the frame bill of sale and an MV-51B for proof of ownership. That I did right in person at the Jamaica DMV office- easy peasy. This ordeal makes no sense at all to me. If they had acted in a timely manner nothing would have expired and I would have been back on the road months ago.

Rant on ...

**** NY/NJ
Back in the day it was always a circle jerk job going to DMV. "Get on that line... #1" behind 40 other *ssh*les and when you get to the front that constipated b*tch on the rag sez. Oh, take this form, fill it out and get on line 7.
Look over, G damn wouldn't ya know it that has 50 other *ssh*les on it. Wait and F'in wait. Get to the front of THAT line and "can't approve this you don't have a pencil tracing of the vin#". "Get the tracing and get back on line 7"
F This..I'm outa here.
Major holeshot on the way out, pulled over, "license and registration please" .. answer "what the **** do think I came here for, it's still inside". "Step out of the car" .. Now thinking .. sh*t, he is going to find my weed, I need to learn to shut my mouth....lol"

Come back with an 'adjusted attitude' I'm not going to let these b*tches win ... but they ALWAYS do.

Now off to "Inspection" and I gotta get out and let some f*t*ss dumbass MF'er park his sh*t stained *ss in MY car ... **** with the wipers, blow the horn and hit the gas punch the brake to watch the 'red fluid' go up the tubes to check the bias. My blood pressure goes higher than that.
check the punch card .. So far so good. Now pull up to the Emissions Station .. yeah right. Here is the **** station where they stick thier 'wand' up your pipe.
I think passed that sh*t twice in 20 years.

"Hmm, better not pull another holeshot this time...LOL

Rant off...

Read the words - Run away and save your life.

I just got one of the new Chile plates offered by NM MVD. Wow. What a breath of fresh air that DMV experience was. I brought in the GXP registration, which I forgot to renew in May. The car's been parked under a cover in the garage, so no harm done. In the same transaction, I renewed the F350 and exchanged the old one that was almost unreadable. My Dad has been after me to get one of the first plates so he gets a low number collectable when the registration runs out. I was in and out of there in under 10 minutes, and the nice young lady did not even levy the $20 penalty for the overdue renewal. Fee-wise, the GXP was $51 and the Ferd was $72.

NM MVD has come a long way since 1999 - the Y2K problem bit them and they could not offer two-year renewals because their software barfed on the rollover to '00'. Now, you can upgrade to a new Chile plate for $6.50 online vs. $16.50 at the MVD. The current online login now lists every car I have registered in the past 20 years. That's a long list!

I called Albany again yesterday. I asked why the 9 months registration left on the plates could not be transferred to the wagon. They said it was because I put them in "storage". The regi gets canceled. So again I lost a year registration by "storing" them, and I was suspended 22 days because I did not "store" them the instant the insurance lapsed. A lose- lose. Welcome to NY where both the majority and minority State Senate leaders were convicted of bribery and a Governor had to resign for soliciting prostitutes. Bang head here>[].
