My garage is 24x24. Considering that my son and I have built 6 or 7 cars in this garage and have 3 more projects (some very disassembled) around the property I know that it appears like we are hoarders.

Currently I’m in the process of re-assembling one of his projects that has the interior gutted (parts around the basement, shed and general vicinity of my property haha), I decided that I wanted to relocate a piece of pegboard from one end of the garage to a side of the garage. So I had to empty the 64”x36” piece of pegboard that has been here prior to starting all of the projects. I can safely say that removing all of the tools, parts and misc stuff from the pegboard made me feel like I might, just maybe a ‘might’, be considered a hoarder by some.

Here is a pic of the empty pegboard :

Doesn’t look that bad eh?

Here’s what was on it :

I found things that I forgot I had. Spare turbo flanges I found on sale - everyone should have 4 spares T4 and a T3 flange, 200-4R shift shaft linkages, of course a spare v-belt (or 20) for test fitment purposes except half of them are new, carb parts (wow I must’ve been high on life back then to save any of that), 280z intake and exhaust gaskets, some minor John Deere parts, and more budget engine and body tools than I remember buying. My favorite is the 14 spare LS head gaskets that are ‘re-usable in a pinch’.

Jesus, I am a hoarder lol.

I should take some pics of ‘my half’ of the basement, the shed, and the sunroom. But if I did that, then that would confirm that my wife isn’t wrong. Hoods, fenders, seats, turbos, complete rears, doors, inner fenders, and of course some motors (6 on stands) and transmissions (3), misc piping, ignition, more carbs (????), etc.

Am I a hoarder?

p.s. I have 5 engines at work……but only one transmission (smh)

That's nothing. When you start ordering extra of the same items by-the-case like some of us you may have a problem.

As for the carb parts, you were wise in your younger years. You can rebuild a carb on your tool bench, but, good luck rebuilding an injector or maf on your kitchen table. If/when the powers that be decide your FI stuff should be phased out for 'green initiatives' and the advanced manufacturing resources and microchips ought to go for better purposes than ICE computers and sensors, you can jump on the ev bandwagon or toss a carb back on the cars.

Luckily for you, your younger self prepared you well.

Comes down to who is giving you that answer.

I have an OCD to keep spares that don't take up much space and are very useable, and I don't like clutter. Everything has a use and goes with something.

I've got friends on the other end of the spectrum who have enough sh*t on hand to build the Labyrinth in every dimension imaginable and you wouldn't see the same thing twice.

Heads up - that’s how it starts!!

IDK, if you saw what I sold off last year.. pretty much everything and slimmed down to the bare needed with some extra. T56 stuff isn't going anywhere but the big stuff definitely went. What I keep around now is more valuable than the money I could get for it.

Sometimes it also just makes sense.

I bought a bunch of cases of cans of r134a @ under $3/can. Wish I had gotten more now that it's $10-$14/can. But, I've got an 8ft long, 16" tall shelf now filled with the stuff. I could sell it all this spring and quadruple my money on a 12 month investment. Or, I could hoard it, and be good for just about the rest of my life.

The difference between good hoarding and bad hoarding is two things: 1) is space to put it all away vs heaps you need to climb over, and, 2) is quality - for example, hoarding pre 1987 BOPs, old inline 6s, even BBs or 1950s-70s sbc high nickle/4bolts all good things. The rest? Meh.... maybe better to clean up a bit.

2 years we sold off 18-20 wheels/tires, then we through out another dozen - that left us with 30-40 tires and wheels.

Fortunately my son took the wheel spacers/adapters when he moved - I think there $200 worth billet aluminum in those boxes.
