Jeep Question

I'm going to pull the valve covers tomorrow to see if the common problem of a rocker falling off is causing the miss. I picked up the TPS and a Crank Sensor from Napa just in case. I don't think it is the TPS either, I unplugged the TPS and the engine died and threw a code. I don't have a scan tool so I'll be out shopping on boxing day for one. Tomorrow I'll just check the rockers. I appreciate your help...thanks

If your looking to buy a scanner, don't know if this might interest you or not, but mine is called a Delphi Connect from Verizon. It's a wireless scan tool that works through your phone, does everything a regular OBDII scanner does, and it doubles as a wifi internet connection for your vehicle. It just plugs into your OBDII port. You can also lock and unlock doors, trunk, and connect a remote start to it to perform these functions from your phone. I think it was $50 upfront and an extra $5 a month on my phone bill. I use it enough to deem it worth the price, it's nice when I'm on the road and get a call from a customer, I can pull over, look up parts and prices for accurate estimates and order them right there from my phone. And without using any of my data or worrying about a poor cell signal. Also nice when a CEL comes on and I can pull over check into it as soon as possible.

There is 10 stored codes, the scanner can't give me live data or check any components and 2 new codes popped up today that my scanner didn't detect but cycling the key gave me the codes. I'm going to try another computer tomorrow.

Stored codes 0010 0013 0102 0117 0121 0123 0343 0368 2135 2138

New codes 0112 0500

the jeep started easy today but ran rough, then got smoother and then really rough and died. The only way to start it after it stalled is with pedal to the floor.

I just started the jeep again to try something....the wind was blowing different direction tonight and smoke was coming up from the back of the engine. I looked underneath than the smoke was coming from the catalytic converter. I had heard rattling under the car and I thought it was just a heat shield that was loose. If all this is just because a cat is plugged I'm going to get some therapy....:blam:

Looks like you have a few cam position sensor codes, a few TPS/ pedal position sensor codes, a MAF/VAF sensor code, and intake temp code and a wheel speed code. The TPS sensors would explain you needed long to floor it for it to start and the cam sensors would explain why it running so rough and dying. I'd go for the cam position sensors to start with.

Don't get me started on cats lol, I just had to put two on my Suburban. Exhaust parts in December isn't a fun job :blam:

what is a stored code?. is a code that came up and was repaired or could it have been a false code. I bought the truck late summer and it had just passed an emissions test. I might have put 50 miles on it since I bought it but started it regularly. It always started easy and ran nice but it did have a small vibration from the engine that did get a bit worse but no check engine lite ever came on so I thought it was just the gas.

It's usually a 'pending code' meaning something has happened in the engine that tripped a sensor. The computer will take note of it and if it happens again (usually has to happen in 2 consecutive drive cycles) within a period of time, the computer will permanently store the code and usually trip the CEL. If the sensor is not tripped again within the given period of time the computer will forget the code. A stored code occurs after a fault has been 'detected' but before the fault occurs again and the code is permanently stored or before the computer doesn't detect the fault again and forgets the code. So yes they can be faulty codes.
