In AZ, you probably don't need to worry about painting the tank. You don't get the moisture like other parts of the country and I seriously doubt you'll be taking this car out if you get another freak storm like you have now.

Here in the rust belt, ANY TIME I drop a tank, I coat the hell out of it with paint, especially the seam where all the stuff collects. It works too. My 77 Grand Prix was originally a southern car. But it went through 14 winters here and the paint really helped that tank. My B Body 78 Olds got the same treatment even though it doesn't go out in the rough weather. Ditto for my wagon tank because it does.

If'n it were me, I'd probably hit it with some matte flexible clear of some sort if they even make that stuff if worried about it. Don't go too crazy, because when you add fuel, the tank will sag in the middle and cause cracking maybe. I've never painted a tank. If you don't, I'm not sure if it will rust because it all depends on the galvanizing coating on the tank from the factory. Wherever that is. Might be enough, or may not be. Might just do it around the tank seams and neck penetration.

In AZ, not sure how much moisture you'd be dealing with so is rust an issue?

I don't believe rust would be an issue but I threw it out there to see if it would stick. Thanks for the suggestion. And there was NO BUILD SHEET on top of the tank where it looked like original. Maybe the factory stopped that long ago to save trees.

Lansing wasn't known to do much on the way of stray build sheets and such. So if you DO find one, consider yourself lucky. Headliners, seat bottoms, seat backs, under the carpets...even door panels. They could show up darn near anywhere. Broadcast sheets too (like a partial build sheet). On my gray 85 442 I used to have, I found 2 broadcast sheets in the driver's bucket back panel. One was for my car, the other was for another gray 85 442 that was only a couple cars different on the VIN. That's Arlington for you. I did find its build sheet under the rear floorboard carpeting. Almost intact.

Well you asked for pics. Maybe this is why the fuel gauge didn't work. 🤢 25 years and this is what is on the sending unit
and in half the tank. Just a black smelly crumbly flakey oily mess.:puke: How would one go about disposing of this fuel tank?
Recycling? Fire Department? Haz Mat? Just trying to be environmentally conscientious here.........and safety first.👍

I'd call the recycling center or Arizona's DHEC whatever it would be called there. They would be able to tell you how to do it, or where to take it. That's just friggin' plain NASTY.

Heck, you could call the junkyard or a mechanic shop. They could probably tell you how to dispose of that tank also.

the build sheet for my 1980 442 was under the back seat I also thought it would on top of the gas tank good luck with the project Jeff from Winnipeg with a wind chill of minus 41 this morning looking forward to Vegas on Thursday hopefully it warms up there as well can't wait to see the finished product

There is only ONE snow shovel IN TUCSON that is used collectively by the residents. A snowblower in Tucson is basically just a strong Santa Anna wind.
We have a shop in Tucson< I was there last February, when it got down into the 50's one day everyone acted like it was the end of civilization. Even the Javelinas had winter hats on.
