If it was a factory 3/4-speed manual then its got a Hurst shifter in it. Thats how they came, Simple as that.

Not to be confused with the '70-ish Hurst SSJ or anything.... :D

I'm wondering if that 79 GP Hurst was originally from Canada since it has a 301 in it. A friend of mine purchased a new trans am in 79 and the largest engine he could get in Canada with a manual transmission was the 301. With the US version you could still get the larger engines....

nope, in '79 the biggest pontiac engine in the GP/GA was the 301. The last year for the 400 was '77 in the old body style... The 301/4spd combo was available in the US.

Wow...i'm really surprised that you didn't know what a Hurst GP was shotgun. I thought you were the Pontiac man! I guess you aren't as old as i thought you were.

Yep that is correct. What is scary is the 265/301 made it into the BIG 77 cars. I think that's part of what gave 265/301 it's bad rep. Imagine driving a 265/301 powered 4200# land yacht, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. No wonder the cranks gave up!!!

I was wondering if there was some trim package or maybe a dealer installed deal like the Gran Prix GT or the Canadian Olympic Grand Ams.
