If they did a good job on the floors and the Rear Frame Rails are decent, then it would be a good find.

As said nothing wrong with repairs, as long as properly done. I was seriously considering a 1987 442 for a little less money but similar rust. I could have patched it an no one would be the wiser but is the problem. I almost bought it last time for the same money but no rust or sagging headliner, the guy sounded very honest, I should have pulled the trigger! With my girls in University, it is a no, I should have bought it last time. Bring a magnet and before, after pics and check floor install pics. These cars are like a 442, you won't get anything but something nasty for under 5 grand, unless you get very lucky.
My skills with rust repair as dismal at best. I know where I run out of talents. I lived in PA for many many years and I have dealt with rust and having been in AZ now, I am spoiled. 😛 What is a good deal for you, may not be a good deal for me. Depending on our skill set, one car won't match our same idea of a good buy. Thanks for your advice. My first real muscle car was a 1969 442 😎and they are near and dear to my heart as well as the Grand AM. 🙂As said nothing wrong with repairs, as long as properly done. I actually question the value of the 442 as well. I have seen very nice examples for $10000, not even sure if they sold. This particular car just needed new paint to be a very nice car but that was 5 years ago, not anymore. Maybe because this car is bone stock? It sold for $4500 last time. I hope he can find a truly nice car, for anything less than 5 or 6K, very unlikely. The difference between a GA and a 442 is 442's have a following and GA's do not. Restore a 442 and make tasteful mods and it will get teens.
I don't know if GA's are there, yet. They are rare, and we all want one, but there is no objective evidence someone will pay for a nicely restored one.
If you pay $5K for a car and put another $10K in it and have a car worth $6K, even if you like the car, it might have been smarter to let someone else put the $10K in it and you be the one paying $6K for it.

I agree a rust free body and decent paint are priority for me as well or a very cheap asking price. The difference between a GA and a 442 is 442's have a following and GA's do not. Oh I have sunk more money into vehicles than pirates did on the beaches of Florida. I have a propensity of over doing it fixing a car to the Obsessive Compulsive Disease level. I have lost more money on cars than I ever made. How many can say that? A lot of us!The difference between a GA and a 442 is 442's have a following and GA's do not. Too bad it didn't have the rear spoiler on the deck the Grand Am CA edition had on it. That looked so part of the package.Have you looked at this one yet? Not a fan of the spoiler on the trunk lid, but looks like a solid car.
