Best $99 I ever spent. Here's my favorite Picard. He's so serious all the time.

Beer always helps!!! And BTW sometimes cursing helps

I had good luck with the ball joint tool. I also had placed a jack under the ball joint and hit the control are lip with a hammer only because my ball joint poped out on the side of the road

Used a 40 ton press to push mine out when the bolt part pulled out the top. It was so tight it blew the bottom out. Ended up using a torch to burn it out. I dont have a good experience with them, thats about it. 😀

Unlike modern day ball joints, these were made to last and they did as long as they were kept lubed. My ford T-bird has been thru 2 full sets of ball joints in 5 yrs...and the dealership told me that the parts were poorly designed...

No, they were brilliantly designed... for them.
Why else would they build ball joints and tie-rod ends without a grease zerk?
If you can't service them, they wear out faster, and then you can go back to the stealership and give them more money to fix it... I bet some sh*t-bag got a huge bonus for figuring that one out!!

I'll second the putting the ball joint in the freezer over night to get them good n cold. Also a harbor freight hydraulic press is a very handy thing to have. I use mine for lots of stuff. I think I paid about $100 for it about 17 or so years ago. Less than $7 a year is a good investment to me. http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-shop-press-33497.html

After pissing around with this thing longer than I care to admit, the initial installation cut splines into the a-arm at an angle; Hence the balljoint wouldn't go in straight no matter what i did. Pissing in the wind for the most part...
I got out the dremel and smoothed out the grooves in the a-arm.

So I went and bought the chinesium HF kit since it was about a 3rd of the price of anything at an auto parts store.
