Anyway, I completely agree. This seems to be much more of a difficult task then presumed.

Seems like there are a lot of brands out there, I just want to make the most educated decision the first time since I don't have all sorts of money to try different shocks until I find the ones I like.

I could go with the bilstien AK series, lakewood?, pro shocks?, Edlebrock? Competition Engineering? etc
