Are you running the car accessories with a bracket for the alternator up top?

Haha, thread must be getting long..... it's all in the first post. Camaro LS1 intake, F-body water pump and balancer, and Kwik performance brackets. All in all, it looks good and works great.

I've been looking at a set of new LS3 heads and intake from GMPP. The heads are CHEAP! About $370 each, assembled with 2.125 hollow stem intake valves and springs that work with my cam. Chambers are within 1cc of what I have now, so C/R would be the same.....and about $800 for the intake with throttle body, rails, and 48# injectors. That would be a smokin' upgrade.

That would be a great upgrade! Did you use a GN/Monte 4.3tbi fuel tank? Ever check to see what kind of mileage this thing can get? Back in the day when I first turned up the boost & fuel in my GN I was running 13.40s at 107mph when I bolted on some soft compound recaps (before the drag radial rage) and immediately started running some 12.7s with no other changes. 60 foots from 2.15s to 1.85s. But I did already have a posi and an air bag in the coil. What I am saying is at 106mph you are probably a tire change away from some 12s. I used the 275/60/15 M&H drag radials on a 15x8 under my 509ci powered Cutlass and loved em. They hooked good held up pretty well and even did well when I got caught in some rain coming home once. I noticed they now have them in a 275/45/18 which is the same 28.0 tall with the same 10.9 section width as what I ran. Bet they would still hook good AND handle a corner well. Anyway just blathering the wheels you got on in the pics look good. You mentioned 14s earlier probably from the stock Pontiac ralleys as what you have now are probably 15s. Anyway have fun with it and keep us posted on your progress.

I kept the original carb'd tank, installed a Walbro inline pump using the stock pickup and soldered a 3/8" tube return line into the pickup/sending unit assembly.

I am running 255/60x15 M/T ET Streets on the back with 205/70x15 Michelin Harmonys on the front. I don't really need the drag radials yet but since I needed tires, I bought them. With the tall gear and tight converter, traction isn't a big issue yet. I'm sure that the 3.73s with a 3000 stall will be a different story, but it will have posi (or a locker) and some suspension upgrades by then.

I love the way the Ls engine looks between the fenders of the GP. Props to you and hopefully i can figure out what route i want to go with on my GP LS engine swap. Keep us posted on any updates.

My mistake  😳

With the LS3 heads I think you'll need the LS3 intake and injectors, as well as the adapter harnesses for the injectors. But why buy new LS3 heads to keep the same compression? I picked up a set of 243 heads locally for only $400 and they are the 02' Z06 ones with hollow stem valves. They have the exact same flow numbers as the 317's, just with a smaller CC that will bump the CR up to around 10.2:1. Just putting that out there. Also I hear the Texas Speed Performance heads are amazing, that's way out of my price range though

hi my name is joe i am new to the forum and was thinking about doing this swap in my 84 monte. The only thing is i am not sure how i am going to do the fuel injection system, do you have any more details on your setup

Basically you will have to make it so it can be wired to a constant +12v source, a switched +12v source from the ignition in the column, and you can use most of the stock setup from a 4.3 TBI G-Body to supply the fuel (a high pressure pump will be required though). There are several companies that modify the harness to be used as a plug & play with a retrofit. You could also buy an aftermarket harness ($$$$) or go with a carbed setup, but you will still need an electric pump because there is no factory provision for a mechanical pump (though there is a conversion timing cover available to run a distributor and mech. pump).

Yup, I'll need the intake, etc. I want to upgrade the intake anyway, the LS1 is about the worst available.... As for the C/R, one word- boost.

To the OP; how much do you think you have invested into the swap at this point?

Since my car is already equipped with a SBC I had planned on stepping up to a 400. After fixing the 400's short comings (heads, rods) and buying pistons, then having machine work done, I really wonder if its more cost effective going with an LM7?

I was pricing them and found plenty of good ones in the $500-700 range with low mileage. I'm looking at what it would cost just to get it in the car and running correctly without any major upgrades.

On another note, I haven't found too many straight forward threads about this swap. I've heard of people using the Hummer or Corvette oil pans, different motor mount kits, notching or not notching the engine crossmember, hacking the a/c box, modified headers/f-body manifolds/truck manifolds, etc.

Any suggestions on what's the best setup for the price? Car is lowered (so which pan), I want to keep the A/C, don't want to cut the frame, not sure which engine management to use, and keeping manifolds is preferred. It's going to be a street car so the LM7's power is plenty better than my 305's 140hp.
