LS Tesla swap

Do electric cars get emission checked in a state like CA? If not (I assume so?) could you get away with doing ANYTHING to a tesla that modifies emissions and it's still legal right? Similar to you can gas swap a diesel G body in CA and everything is fair game?
There is no "state like CA."

Interesting point, though. I was going to wisecrack about adding insult (yet another LS swap) to injury (a Tesla).

Maybe you can save a bundle by buying the Tesla with shot batteries.

They should have put a SBO in it instead. I kidd I kidd. I like seeing them retrofit an ICE into those cars just for the fun and in yo face factor.

I will say those EV's are pretty quick for what they are. I saw they make sound systems for them now that go where the exhaust would that emulate the sound of race motors which reminded me of the movie The Dilemma and also made me laugh.

I recently saw on one of the saturday motortrend shows where they are working on putting a tesla motor and battery into a 69 (or thereabouts) cougar convertible. It hurt me to watch that.

Natasha's step backwards from a Gen 4 to Gen 3 F-body says it all. Talk about disappointed.
I'm sure she is used to it by now

The swap would've been better if he did it to a brand new tesla fresh out of the dealership.

Missed an opportunity to piss off a whole lot more people.

Now, better hope they wire 100% of the car from scratch. It'd suck if Musk sent an OTA update that bricked all of the car from disapproval of what the guys do.
My buddy has been telling me about this from the beginning, if you go and watch his other stuff. He would go through and repair totaled Tesla's until they decided to do exactly that with sending an OTA to delete the ludicrous package and superchargering or something on one of the repaired ones. So that's what this is meant to be

Guess I got to be the minority, if I had the proper setup to get a Tesla and charge it easily I would definitely rock one. I personally like the innovation in a lot of them, early in the Monte build I was going to try to source a Tesla screen to put in it. Have any of you actually driven one of the ludicrous mode setups? You launch it once and I think a lot would see a different light, as a car guy fast is fast and what that all electric launch can do is very impressive to me. Let alone what they are claiming that the roadster is gonna be able to do

I don't think you're in the minority. I have ridden in one & the amount of instant torque is addicting. But the sound of the driving experience is gone & that's something I love.

Are they good? Sure. Are they 'better' vs. the current standards of ICE's on the market? Define better. Better per dollar spent as an investment? Better per avg mile driven? Better globally?

Would I drive one? Maybe, as a back & forth ride if it was free. Would I pay for one? Nope. But to be fair.... I wouldn't pay for a new ICE ride either. I'll stick to my older used stuff that I can tweak toward my personal tastes vs having some electronic control that doesn't allow it (or kills any warranty you've paid a premium for).

I agree. I used to work at a shop that repaired Tesla’s. The launch in ludicrous is awesome, but they’re very uninspiring.

I wouldn't say uninspiring is accurate, it may not be a spirited drive. But Tesla is the reason that we now have bigger screens in vehicles which probably isn't a big deal to most, but is something I appreciate since I have always hate factory equipment and felt that for the price you should get a lot more in them. There are many more reason I could go on about why I think Tesla's overall benefit the market for everyone but don't want to sound like too much of a fan boy

I'm not a fan of big x bigger screens. But again.... My 'newest' vehicle to date is a '99 OBS truck that I purchased when it was 18yrs old.
Everyone has their likes/dislikes. I'm just glad there are many flavors to choose from.

Not to mention ugly AF. Jury out on what the roadster would look like in production form, especially the idiotic interiors so far, but, no way in hades I'd pay the 200k-250k projected for one.

Make it free with free guaranteed electric access, maybe. But between escalating costs on electric usage and poor availability in power grids... umm... everything keeps coming up a big nope

Lifted 4wd 4bt swap with a 4" hood exit and rain flapper. Because maximum offensiveness.

I'd be open to owning a battery vehicle at some point. IF I had a commute that it would save me a significant amount of money on, and IF I owned a vehicle to do my long trips and hauling stuff. Instead of my wife having her daily, and me having my daily and fun cars, I would just add another car to the fleet and the use case of insurance, tabs, and paying for it is a long shot.

But the worst part about owning a Tesla is the fact that other tesla owners (and non tesla owners) think you are one of 'them'.

I also want to see someone 6bt swap a tesla now since it's the most dichotomous swap possible.
