This sounds like my kinda project. Welcome. LOTSA PIC'S!!!

sounds like what i am already doing, you will find out real quick that the motor is too much for a stock suspension and brakes if you intend to drive it on the street.

are you going to put in real headers or manifolds for exhaust. if you wnat the good headers get the hooker super comp ones, best fitting ones, but you will have to loose the column shift...another thing throw away the stock rear axle, dont even try it with a 7.5" rear!

496 BB

I'm currently building a 496 for my Boo. I was going to bolt up Richmonds new street/strip 5spd, but it's $3000. So I'm droppin about $1200 into my Th400. My plans are 10.1 comp., around 625 lift cam, dart alum. heads, 3000 stall, 3.55-3.73 gears & 29x11 rear tires. I have a fbr glass hood n alum core support. Not sure if I'm gonna use Hotchkis rear arms or use adjustable ladder bar, panhard bar & coil overs. Brakes are off of an 01' T/A. I will post pic's soon. Its gonna get cold soon n I'm gonna tear into it. Good luck!

thanks guys ,....78mc do u have vids of your car?

no i dont have any vids of the car. i am currently rewiring the gauges (all new autometers) the mallory ignitoon box and the electric fans.
i hate wiring! After wiring i need to get an alignment since the suspension mods.

i built the car differently then pretty much every other big block g-body out there.
i still am running all factory power equipment like windows locks seats etc.. if the car came with it from the factory i'm not going to get rid of it.
i upgraded the entire suspension to all aftermarket compnents and 13" vette brakes with hydroboost assist.

i am building the car to be able to drive it easily, make corners and go fast.

i dont like the idea of saying you have a street car with no power brakes, power steering or ac. i've seen and talked to several big block malibu owners that say they have a street car with a big block but they wont drive it on the street cause the brakes and steering suck since they ditch the power assist, but it was fun watching those guys try and make turns at any speed!!

i already have 600+ horsepower and weigh 3300 lbs so why not keep power brakes, steering and all of the goodies and have a street car with some comfort??

Well the motor was built by a shop that does prostock, funny car, mud trucks and top fuel car motors so they built me what they call a mild motor.

the motor is 454-60 over, strocker crank, eagle rods, 10.2 to 1 compression hyper pistons, custom ground solid lifter cam (would need to look up numbers on lift??), brodix bb-2 heads, ferra stainless valves, crane valvetrain with roller rockers, weiand team-g intake, holley 870cfm street avenger carb and mallory breakerless ignition with box and the motor dynoed at 625hp/610tq all on 92 octane pump gas. pretty much the only part thats factory GM is the block everything else is aftermarket/ hooker super comp ceramic coated headers, dual 3" exhaust with h-pipe and dynomax ultra flo mufflers. this thing rattles buildings!

i am running a th-350 with shift kit, external cooler/filter combo and 3500 stall convertor and a 8.5" rear end with girdle and 3.42 posi, upper adjustable arms, lower iceman arms, 1.375 rear sway bar, will be converting to big ford ends and 12" ls1 rear disc brakes

front suspension i have modifed stock spindles with 13" vette brakes, upper adjustable control arms, spohn lower tubular control arms, poly bushing all around, 1.42" front sway bar. stock 3rd gen f41 monte braces, grand prix braces and rear seat brace.

wheels are centerline big sur's and tires are 17x8 front with 245-45-17 nittos, rears are 17x9.5 with 275-40-17 nitto drag radials.

i also have a nitrous kit but not sure if i will keep it or not??

any other questions??

78mc how is the hypers holding up ? i have heard so many bad things about them.....do u run your carb on the rich side?
