i figure i am running around 500 or more to the wheels.

the hypers are fine i've known alot of people with them with no problems as long as your not running NOS all day long. the guys on spike tv did a dyno on a camaro with hyper pistons and even ran it with a 300 shot with no problems. if you build it for nitrous then sure buy forged but for an occasional shot i wouldnt bother.

no track time yet, i'm still doing wiring and i know a guy with a 78 malibu with a milder motor around 500 flywheel horse same transmission and rear running low-mid 11's without bottle with a good reaction time and a 1.5 60' time. so i figure 10's all motor and 9's on bottle, since i do weigh a ltittle less then him too and built the suspension for 1.5 60' times too.

Jaywill, Welcome cool project and thanks for the pics. What are more plans goals for the car & motor.

78MC, Very cool car. Can't wait to read some of your posts once you get her up and running. 3,500 stall, 3.42s, th350, short tires, and a long stroke big block might not make for the happiest car for a power tour or something but tons o fun around town. I like the pump gas, power everything, AC, streetable cam & gears type street car. Not many actually build this type of car and many later wish they had. To stop and corner way better than stock is also very cool. My cars are built with similar goals to yours only maybe with umm less budget. 🙂 Four kids and a mortgage etc kinda keeps the project fund thin. My signature has the highlights on mine. I have to say haveing an overdrive & lock up converter is very nice. On my first combo of 3.42s and 28" tires my 509 got 16.8 & 17.0 mpg on a trip going 70 to 75mph taching 2,400 to 2,600. At time she weighed 3,840 with me and ran 110mph in the 1/4. Not great but good all around. I have a buddy with a 66 468 Chevelle runs 9.60s but he can't go far without a trailer and tools. He wants to do something more along the lines of driveable now.

78mc ...thanks 4 the hyper info....ii;m taking mine 2 the machine shop 2=marrow.....

vern...this is going 2 b my street monster..i want 2 b able 2 drive it anywhere i want 2 go and still run high 6,s in the 1/8 😀

oh my stroker is built by a stroker crank, not lonoger rods and it does rev to 7000. so it will like pretty much anything i throw at it

ok thanks, what rear end r u using? and what headers?
btw where did u get the gauge pod from ? looks realy good 😀

that's the factory gauge pod for a '79. i have the same one in mine, and as much as i love the look, i'll probably be ditching it by way of some autometers, or perhaps at least a set of real gauges instead of idiot lights!

^^ same as all montes... try getting some SS gauges and using the wiring diagram for the cutlass granny -> rally pac swap!

i,m talking about on the door pilllar..........

the door gauge pillar came from gaugepods, they make them in single, double and tripple gauges. it was around $45 bout 2 years ago, see below.

for rear end & driveshaft im using a stock 8.5 from a 87 GN came out of a rust free 80k mile car.

for headers im using hooker ceramic coated headers #2241
