My daily driver project 81 ElCamino

I HAVE to do some maintenance on the El Camino this weekend. The turn signal switch left turn is not staying down, engine has developed a slight miss at idle, the rotors are warped, oil is black, and I'm tired of the rear being squatted. I bought some Monroe air shocks. Also the blower motor intermittently quits blowing completely and comes back on. It will do it a few times a week. Already repaired the melted 4 prong plug in behind the passenger valve cover thinking that was it. I bought a new relay. It was only $12 so it's worth replacing. I also bought a replacement windshield washer pump and new hoses. I'd love to put on my new full dash cover but I would want to pull the dash and paint the forward section and defroster vent areas of it SEM landau black. Don't know if I'll have time for that tall order though

Fwiw, I had the same intermittent fan blower speed issue for a while on Project Olds Cool. It turned out to be a faulty fan speed selector on the hvac control. Changed it out with a different one from a salvage yard, no issues since. Thought I'd mention it, you may want to start there.

I just drug a couple of HVAC controls out of my attic with fan speed switches in them. I'm willing to try anything with it being high 90s on temps. Gotta have my AC blowing on high. I have flipped the switch down and back up trying to get it to come back on but it did not work.

Mine had a damaged spade on the blower switch, presumably on the power wire. The only way I could get it to come back on was by pushing the blower switch in towards the controller. Don't know why that worked sometimes, but it did. I'm just glad it's fixed now, and I don't have to f**k with it anymore.
Hopefully your issue is something similar, cause that would be an easy fix. Good luck!

I busted my @$$ all day in the heat. I installed air shocks, windshield washer pump, removed the dash, fixed someones horrible kill switch wire job, new HEI coil and module, blower motor relay, glued down my new full dash cover which I'm not at all impressed with, sanded and painted my brake pedal and accelerator pedal arm, and ran some speaker wire for the rear. The dash was a mess. There were large cracks and pieces missing. I've seen where heat from the sun makes the dash overlays sink into the big cracks before. I bevel ground the cracked areas and used body filler to fill the voids. After sanding level, I wiped it down with SEM SOLVE and used a full tube of windshield urethane because it's all I had here. I installed the crappy quality dash overlay and used a BUNCH of my neighbors clamps with paint sticks. I don't like that the grain is incorrect and that they cut it too short on the sides. BUT, it is better than a heavy cracked dash pad so I'll learn to live with it. Tomorrow I'm going to gray scotch brite it, Sem Solve it, tack rag it, and spray it with SEM burgundy paint. I plan on sanding and painting my steering column burgundy too while it's out. I had bought a nice used set of lower a pillar/cowl trims from Kevin. These are the ones that screw on before you set your dash back in. The top of the kick panels butt up to them. I scotched them and they got a shot of burgundy too. The old ones were crumbled to pieces. I reset the pins on the cluster connection for a rally cluster with tick toc tach. Tomorrow I will drill the hole in the stock location for the tach filter on the firewall before installing the dash. I got a hell of a lot done today and I hope it goes quick and smooth tomorrow too. I found my squeak in the dash. Also found out why my ignition tumbler is not very springy. The rod is bent upwards causing it to grind on the edge of the switch. Going to swap out that rod from a parts column I have in my shed.

I did a lot of shaping with a heat gun on this dash coverlay. The speaker grilles fit horribly and the glove box drags on the cover. Going to do some more shaping tomorrow. It rained most of the day so nothing done again but watch movies

This is something I've done to my Monte Carlos and my first El Camino. I spray glue the underside and edges of the speaker grilles and put on speaker grille cloth. I just happen to have a remnant in my upholstery stash. I got the dash sprayed and it is sitting in the truck. Came in for lunch.
