Re: My Latest Carburetor (q-jet guys will get a kck out of t
As I said I would, here's some pictures of the jeep. A little background info first, a buddy of mine was about to send this jeep to the scrapper. He called me up to see if I wanted anything off it before it went, so I went up to take a look. Long story short, I ended up with the whole carcass, lol, and I do mean carcass. This friend of mine is one who I swap parts with on a regular basis, a few years ago I gave him an 8.5 30 spline posi rear end out of an ex police car for his 51 pontiac, when I asked him how much for the jeep, he said take it home with you, if you can use it you can have it, consider us even, yup I was stoked, haha. Onto the pics!
On July 2, this landed in the driveway.
It had a light roll over, so the roof needed some attention, quarter was wadded a bit, ne engine, missing door, hood, amongst other things, lol. It was rodent infested, so I gutted it for cleaning.
The roof after some strightening and filler, I didn't anything with the center, I left it as is, no one will see it when it's lifted any way, lol.
all primered up, lol.
I spent a bit of time cutting stretching and rolling my fender lips for extra tire clearence, rear quarter got a similar treatment, minus the stretch.
There you have it all painted. Labor day weekend.
Engine was taken from my 97.
Cleaned, resealed, and painted that wonderful AMC engine blue, lol.
The rest has been putting this back together, it recieved the dana 44 from the other jeep as well. A bit of time went into modfying and making parts to adapt the offy intake to the 4.0 head. It's nerve racking to take a grinder to a new $300 intake, but it had to done, then I found out about header clearence issues, had a few beers and solved that with a sawzall, grinder, torch, and welder, lol.
I had to lower the primary tube quite a bit.worked out well that I had a spare 4.0 head kicking around, lol.
Then the power steering adapter bracket.
Throttle/trans cable bracket, along with last nights tps bracket.
I was trying to stick to a budget of under $1000, it doesn't look like I'll be able to keep it though, I'm upto about $800 so far, and haven't bought tires yet, lol. So there you have it 4 months worth of work, lol. Enjoy!
