Thanks pontiacgp, I halfassed my other jeep, and was never happy the results, so this one, I decided to put a little more effort into.

Mr Olds, that was your first post in this thread, what you have done is NOT a winter rat daily driver...hell it's alot nicer then alot of summer rides out there...

on that carb was the brass float already there or did you buy it?

"It had a light roll over," DAMN man, you don't half-step at all. Well done!

Hmmm, I also found that the sheets for 66' and 67' carbs which show slightly smaller jets and rods for the 230 cid motors. The230 converts to 3.79 liter, while the 250 converts to 4.09 liter which would match up with your motor. So if you recalibrate yours and it still seems too rich, check these sheets for the jets/rods used in the 230 for a guide to which way to adjust. I find tuning a Q-jet to be a fascinating adventure and when you get it right, you get a case of smile-itis!

for metering rods I just bought some about a month ago and was told the GM rods are no longer available. I had to measure the rods and got the Edelbrock equivalent

I see them on Epay a lot, as well as some carb shop sites. The range is very limited though. That's why I grab as many as I can for as cheap as I can so I can strip them for parts.

lol, Thanks again pontiacgp, part of the reason I went a little overboard, is because the oportunity was there, one door was already missing, so why not remove the rest, makes it easier to sand properly, fenders had to come off for reshaping, quater windows had to come out for welding, I had the engine out in the open mind as well clean and paint, it's a product of the snowball effect, lol. I originally had no intent of taking it quite this far, but the nit picker took over and ummm yeah, lol. However with the exception of the roof and quarter, I used virtually no body filler on this, I left the dings and small dents in it, I figured there's no sense in making it perfect, as it will see offroad use, lol.
The float: When I cracked the carb open a brass one was in it, I'm not sure that it had one factory beacause this carb was a holley reman. I always use brass floats though whether or not it came with one (yes I bought a new one) , main reason, they either float, or sink, they can't take on fuel unless there's a hole unlike the plastic type (just personal preference I guess, lol).

Bonnewagon: That is awesome! Thank you! :respect: If the jeep works ok, I'll be building more q-jets for my 258's and those sheets are going to be a huge help!

So I got the jeep all together and drivable, been driving it daily for the past week or two, I had made an air intake for the carb that turned out bad. So I had to buck up and cut a hole in the hood :x for an open element air cleaner. I made a bulge to cover it up out of sheetmetal, fairly woodchuck but it works, lol.

Not too bad for not having a metal brake  .

Goofy looking, but it does its job. Jeeps running great now, still fine tuning the secondaries to do what I want them to, getting closer though, lol. I did have a sort of dumbass moment though, haha, never really utlizing a choke before, I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing. When I assembled the carb, I saw the kit gave a gasket for the choke stat (electric choke), so I used it, I fought with trying to get the choke to function properly for a couple days, before deciding to take another stat off a parts carb I had laying around, thinking I had a bad stat. I noticed there was no gasket, I then realized, duh, the stat grounded to the carb :blam: . Yup basic thing like that caught me up  , it works now though, hahaha.

That's not goofy looking, you do some awesome work ...

if you want a story about a ground I picked up a ford style solenoid, mounted it on the plastic wheel well and could not figure out why it would not work when I had all the power wires hooked up... 😳
